Hi all. I'm a CNA and currently in my second month of an 18 month LPN program. I was expecting a vigorous and challenging program, but so far it as been the opposite. I realize we must start with the basics for those that have no prior health care experience and I try to lend a helping hand to and a pair of listening ears to those who have no prior experience and are frustrated but inside I feel very discontent. While I love basic care I'm ready to learn about assessments, care plans, meds, veni-punctures, etc. I've tried talking to my peers in the class who are CNAs and they just look at me as if I'm crazy, they seem quite content with the lack of challenge. Am I crazy? Will things start looking up? :o

Ben, you're crazy. Enjoy it while you can because they'll soon be shoving so many facts into your head it'll be spinning. :chuckle Seriously, if you're feeling unchallenged, there's no problem with reading ahead and getting a jump on other things.

Yes, enjoy it while it lasts. The easy unchallenging stuff means that you are probably getting straight A's. Use the easy time to enjoy yourself because once it gets hard you will be plenty busy.

Maybe I really am just crazy  ! I found out my final grades for the first grading period (6wks) in Personal Vocational Relationships I got a 94 (A) in Fundamentals of Nursing I got a 95 and in A & P I got a 100 I was pretty happy I am trying to enjoy the easy stuff while it lasts but I just get restless sometimes, I have noticed that we're slowly but surely we're having more and more random tests and quizzes.

I promise you things will pick up and then you will look back on this time as the good ol' days! :chuckle Congrats on the excellent grades! Woohoo!

Congratulations on earning the outstanding grades. :)

I recently completed a year-long LVN program and the pace did not become vigorous until level 3, which was about four and a half to five months into the school year. At that point, very few people were making the honor roll and the rest were struggling for a way to absorb the mountains of material. I am not exaggerating when I declare that we were taking several extremely challenging tests and quizzes per week. Also, your assessment and planning skills were being honed. Always remember that the short-term goal is to pass NCLEX on the first attempt. The long-term goal is to perform as a safe, effective nurse.

.....When you get your license and start out on your first job. You'll be more busy than you ever thought you would be. You'll long go back to the boredom of school.
