Just wondering, how many of you are using FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING(i had to buy the package hard cover, soft and procedure checklist). It also comes with DVDS and that you can go online with. I am very overwhelmed- I have no clue as to how to arrange my stuff and how to take notes....how do you do it, even if its not with these books, how do you cateorgise your notes and any other organizational tip you can give, i would greatly appreciate it!

I am using the same books and I am soooooo in love with them so far!!

I also got the Study Guide. The books are by Taylor, right?

I found the textbook to be a really easy read and it's not difficult for me to actually sit down and study with it. The study guide is a great resource, and I use it after every chapter I read to answer the questions.

I have tabbed the chapters in the big book so I can find what I need quickly.

As far as note-taking, I focus on the most important (bold) items, and jot down a thing or two, whatever is most relevant. Alot of what I'm reading is really common sense stuff that doesn't need to be written down.

I skim the book and print off the lecture power points for that day, and take notes in class. Then I come home and read the book along with my notes, rewrite everything and then type it out in outline form and use that as a study guide. I don't keep all the power points in my class folder because it just gets to be too much. I keep my revised outline in the binder so I can refer back to it if I need to. This way, I'm carrying 1 or 2 pages per lecture as opposed to 40 or 50 pages worth of slides.

Easier on the back....those books are heavy enough!!

Orginization at home.....I have a large corner desk with shelves and a cabinet with door. It takes up the whole back half of my living room, but that's ok. Everything I need is within arm's reach.

On the wall above my working area, I put some pegboard. When I make my flash cards, I stick them on binder rings and hang them on the pegboard. Each set of notecards has a cover page so I can glance and know what is what without having to hunt. I also have my little hole punch thing, scissors, and tape up there.

All of my books, I have set up along one wall on my desk. The little plastic bins with drawers (Rubbermaid, I think) are the best investment I ever made. I'm a bit of a pen whore, so I have those drawers stocked with pens, highlighters, extra note cards, a candy stash that the kids don't know about) you name it!

Im very jealous! You seem to be very very organized, which I am ...but i dont have a system, thats my problem. I should have put the author on my thread, that was stupid. Der! HOw many fundamentals of nuursing books do you think there are? Guess i was just to lazy to get up and look at that book during my break. I agree alot of it is common sense. In the book that i have, theres just so many assignments that were given, its so overwhelming! But i am just gonna take it one assignment at a time. "undamentals of nursing" by Judith wilkinson and karen van lueven...Thanks for the tips, i will try and incorporate some into my routine and hopefully i can get down a system!:yeah:

i've been a student in some capacity since 1999, and it's taken me unitl now to figure out what works best for me. You'll find some things that work and some things that dont.....just remember to quickly do away with the things that aren't working for you. It all comes in time.

WOW! I envy you! I am the most organized person I know & you have me second guessing myself. Nice ideas! :-)

I use those books. The DVDs have been a Godsend! Even though, I can point out a few things that they do wrong (i.e. reaching over a sterile field). I love them! I have excellent instructors, though, and I'm just really organized. When I type up my reading notes or write down my lecture notes, I refer to the page(s) of the content that I'm writing on, make note of helpful summary tables/charts, and put things in my own words. So far my technique works for me! I have made a 94 and 92 on my tests so far! Considering we need a 78 to graduate, I think I'm doing pretty darn good!

I under stand what your saying. I too am using this book but we are doing 2 classes out of this book which is CRAZY!!!!!! i mean here they call the 2 classes VR AND P&S . what a mix up i get . lol half the time i dont know which class im in. and the math for get about it. no clue!!!:):nurse:
