I would like some advice on where to work. I graduated a year early from highschool and went into an LPN Program at the age of 17. I graduated in July and took my boards Friday and found out I passed today..yessss. I am taking one course at a community college and plan to pursue my RN one day. I would however like to get a job and gain experince plus save money for college. I am just not sure in which direction to head. Do I want to work in a doctors office, that would be nice because no weekends. Do I want to work in a hospital or be a travel nurse? I really don't think I want to work in a nursing home. I live in upstate NY. Any advice??

Jean

Yay for Jean!

I'm upstate, too.

If you don't want the nursing home go for the doctor's office. There isn't much else up here except the ARC group homes for the MR/DD.

And congratulations!

Oh, and you won't get a travel position as an LPN. I don't know where upstate you are but CVPH rarely hires us and there isn't much else left.

I am sorry I should have been more clear. I move next week to central NY so I will be near 5 hospitals I am just so undecided. The travel nurse agency here does hire LPN'S but I don't know to much about travel nurses.

If you can get a travel position at your age and base yourself from your folks' home do it. You're young and free and can bankload a buttload of money for RN school.

I don't know anything about travel agencies but for regular agencies you need some experience first . Can you get hired at one of the hospitals .

I have always worked in nursing homes, but many are now rehab also. If you want experience, a rehab facility is the way to go. I work in a rehab facility on a vent/trach unit.
