Too late to become an LPN?

Hello,

I am 48 and have been accepted into an LPN program in the fall. I am hoping to complete it and move to Naples, FL. I would love to work a couple of days a week, nothing full time. I am not sure if this is a realistic goal at my age. I would love to hear from anyone that works in the Naples area as an LPN. I am curious what the pay is like for new grads and if there are available jobs in the area.

I heard Florida pays LPNs nickes and dimes.. and no it's not too late to go back to school. I'm 26yo, and I was 20yo when I was in nursing and we had a few classmates in their 50's! Good luck to you :)

I was in my 50's when I went back to school for nursing, LPN. I am like you and I work 2-3 days a week. Well, nights actually. After working in one LTC for a year, I decided to go with a staffing agency as I need more flexibly in my schedule.

So short answer, not it is not too late.

I couldn't help but to laugh at this because it must be true. When I contacted a travel agency about the pay for a particular area, I was told that they could not even match my take-home weekly pay.:woot: Mind you, I only work 1-2 days per week TOPS! My response was, "are you kidding me?!?!?!?" I thought agency surpasses employer pay, which they do most of the time. But, not in that particular area. I was just speechless. The recruiter said she would get to work on an assignment and get back to me when she finds a match for my pay. Still waiting..:cautious:

Fortunately for me, my non-nursing offer was finalized the same day I received my Florida license. I love Florida, but not enough to donate my services. So, looks like the Sunshine State will be used for vacations only.:up:

I am 61 and I went to LVN school at 58. To quote my aunt- "You're never too old to try something new". Just know you will devote a year of your life to learning a lot. But you can do it!!! I work full time at a long term care facility. I work 6p-6a. I love what I do but hate the handcharting. But I do believe I do love the residents very much!! GO FOR IT!

You are never too old to become a nurse. Although, I am not from Florida, I became a nurse at 40. I had a classmate who was 48 and another 46 yrs old. The 46 year old became an RN. If you have a calling to become a nurse, follow your heart. You ARE NEVER too old to learn something new! We need good nurses! If you never try, you will never know how good you may become. Im originally from SWFL, unless your rather well off working and living in Naples isn't really that feasible. I commuted from Cape Coral for a while and ended up leaving my position there to find something closer. However if your already an established resident there, and housing isn't an issue there are lots of jobs, but your mostly going to be working in physicians office's or LTC facilities. Hope this helps. When I left SWFL with 4 years experience I was making roughly 18.50 Hr.

In my LPN class, there were 3 of us that were 57 years old. Two of us passed the NCLEX & are licensed working LPN's!

I went to school with a lady that was 65. She graduated 2nd in class.
