I am an LPN at a very busy RPG pediatric clinic. I just graduated in September but I am not new to the medical field. I know that some people just dont work but the situation I am currently in bothers me more than I think it should. In my clinic there are two LPN's and 3 CMA's. First let me say that two of these girls work their butts off on a daily basis and never comlpain. The third girl however NEVER works. She can and will find anything to make her look busy so she does not have to check in patients and such. I am the floor LPN and the other LPN works the office answering the phone and returning patient calls. We had an office meeting last week about this "problem of someone not doing their part" (everyone was there except the one girl who does not work). The clinic manager asked US if we wanted this girl fired. Well we dont want to see anyone out of a job and thats not for us to decide. So she said that this girl would be moved to a specialty clinic and that someone new would be hired for our clinic and that this girl would go back on probation. I was off last friday and this past monday and when I retunred to work this girl was still there and on top of it they gave her a shift that everyone there was asking to have. So they rewarded her for doing a bad job basically. We are all hot over it now. And to make it even worse I found out from one of our attending docs that this is not the first time they have done this with her. Now, let me say...I dont have a problem with working hard to earn my money but I do have a problem with working like a dog and picking up the slack for someone else and that person being rewarded for being a bad employee!! HELP!! I am currently looking to transfer within the company to another office because I can not stand to watch anyone work like we do when we should not have it so hard if this one girl would just get off her butt and work!! :angryfire

Sorry you are having such problems - always seems like there is one in every workplace!

My question is did you talk with the clinic manager about why the change from what she told you in the meeting? Seems like that would be the logical place to start. And if the physician's are aware of the problem with her laziness, would they be willing to speak with the manager as well?

It would be a shame for you to leave. You get punished by leaving a job you like and she gets rewarded by getting rid of someone who knows how lazy she is.

What was the point in giving her this new shift? Could it possibly be so she will be more easily watched and they can then discipline her with 'proof' rather than hearsay? Just a thought.....

To be honest...this week has been totally awful for me and I know if I try to talk to the clinic manager I will either break down in tears or cuss her out and get fired...neither of which I want to happen. And I am rather new at this office (I have only been there 9 months). I did go to the other LPN (who is suppose to be the "supervisor") and talk to her. She said "I am suppose to be walking the floor and watching her but I just dont have the time since I am so busy in the office". Then she got up and walked around for about 2 minutes and went back to her desk. This girl is either on the phone with personal business, or on the computer doing personal business or entering immunization to the electronic medical charts (which we all agreed would be done when the clinic was slow). We can be up to our eyes in work with charts backing up and patients mad and she is on the phone or we cant find her at all!!!! She takes 2 hour lunches and comes and goes as she pleases. Its just.....:angryfire !!! I am sorry I am unloading but if I dont get it out I will scream!!

I think I know where her twin works. It's driving me nuts and I only work there one day a week. To tell the truth, I'm talking to my boss the next time I'm in. Phone calls, computer entry, chatting to patients who are waiting to see the Dr., anything but dealing with her patients who usually leave without being seen because they're just plain angry. But she knows everything and is a great nurse, honest she tells me so every time I see her!

OK that made me laugh...thank you!! I know there is one in every office and hospital floor but I just feel like you should be proud of the job you do no matter what that job is and you should try your best to atleast attempt to work.

My first thought was... this gal is really attractive(eye candy) and those who could "discipline" her or deal w/ her are guys. Or, she is related to some hi-up. either?

How can I put this gently to where you won't pull a no call no show tomorrow... She probably blamed her lack of performance due to being unhappy with her shift. And managers that are not directly over them could care less about the slack everyone picks up due to it because they don't want to catch a case with unemployment. I can think of a few times coworkers tried to complain about me and I would tell the manager exactly how I felt and she would accomidate my needs to motivate me to do better. No it wasn't for laziness but I kinda get what ur talking about.

Your coworker knew it worked last time and will do it till it catches up with her. There should be a policy/procedure in place with ur company of how many warnings they can give her, then it's automatic write ups.

This thread is over TWO years old. So I think the problem should be handled by now...
