LVN then work as CNA or caregiver?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I'm LVN here in California (Central Valley to be exact) I just past my boards last May then my name was appeared at the website last July 11. Since I received the letter that I passed I start looking and applying here. i start applying last june 6 till now.

I have active CNA license. Should apply as CNA or work as caregiver even I am a license nurse??? I'm sad I still waiting for interview calls. But still no job offers. Im planning to apply as CNA coz I work before in a Nursing and Rehab. i did volunteering in hospital and some private home nursing in our country. i have BSN but CA have their concurrency issues thats why I got denied to seat for nclex RN thats why I took nclex PN.

And I dont know if my resume is steong enough to enter the very competitive nursing job hunting here in CA.

I graduated BSN last 2009 (in our country)

work as Private Home Nurse (May-2009-Aug 2011)

I came here in US (Sept 2011)

Volunteer as childworker (feb 2012-march 2012)

Volunteer at Hospital (March 2012-aug 2012)

work as CNA (sept 2012--april 2013)

Took my nclex (may 2013)

Passed (june 2013)

See my name at website (july 2013)

Am I too late for job hunting thanks :(

You have not even had one month of looking for a job as a lvn! How many apps have you put in so far? I am sorry that your family can not understand that you are not handed a job the minute you pass the NCLEX. You simply will just have to try to explain to them that you are going to try to do your best at getting a job, but they have to have patience with you and the process. Explain that it could take months to find a job. And from what I hear it is hard to find a nursing job no matter if you are a LVN or RN in CA. Also needless to say there probably are fewer LVN jobs out there then RN as well. Good Luck and keep looking and sending in those apps wherever you find a opertunity. If you simply have to have a job nosw I'd look at a job outside off the medical feild. That way you are not violating any laws with working underneith your licence. Good Luck it's a lot of hard work sometimes but if you don't give up your first nursing job will be worth the wait.

Thank you enlighten me :)

Sorry to tell you this but you have to wait for months before you can really say that 'you cannot find a job'

I know I'm sorry :(

Specializes in 4.

Being a nurse isn't easy & finding a job is even harder, then living in CA is even worse. Maybe your family has no clue? You need to tell them. Trust me when I say that only you will be able to move mountains. Some nurses have been out of work for months or a year before landing a job, without anyone's help. You can research plenty on this website.

Yeah maybe I just have to wait to have a job.

Specializes in Hospice Care, Med/Surg.

You do realize that despite taking a CNA job you will be held liable like the LPN you are. I would not want to risk my license for anything other than working in my nursing compacity. #ijs

If you keep waiting, there's a chance you'll never get a nursing job.

I'm originally from California, but moved out of state for my first nursing job. I relocated 1,400 miles away from family and the only state in which I've ever lived to find work.

I realize some people are unwilling to move due to real estate, sense of duty to family, or other reasons. However, be prepared to keep waiting if you wish to continue to stay in a state with a 43 percent unemployment rate for new grads. There are jobs in other states, but unfortunately everyone wants to flock to California to get their piece of the dwindling pie.
