Here's my story, I graduated a year ago from the Vocational Nursing program...I've taken the nclex-pn my third time a month ago and found out that I failed again!!! Right now I currently need a job that's somewhat in the medical field because i am sooo broke and I can't keep waiting for this lvn thing to happen...i don't want to be a cna/caregiver because i feel that it will stress me out a lot more while i study for this 4th try....I wish I could get an interim permit but i know they only allow that before u take the nclex the first time...and I was also thinkin about being a social worker in the nursing homes? does anyone know what exactly a social worker does in the nursing homes...there's this upcoming seminar in my area that will train me to become a social worker but i am not sure what a social worker does? can someone please help and tell me what a social worker does if they were to work in a nursing home? or is there any way i can work as an lvn without a license or is that impossible?

Social work as a profession is usually a bachelor's degree program and I think it includes a certifying exam at the end. They have to do a period of community service (I think that would be the equivilant to the nurses' clinicals). Is it that the title of "social work" at this facility is holding a different job description?

I know that at times, they make up creative titles for certain things (such as Developmental Aide, Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant, etc...), but from what I know, their education is not a quick training, it is an entire program that takes about 4 years to complete. Some people get jobs as patient techs, but this is still CNA work that also includes phlebotomy and EKG. If you have your CNA, you can see about applying for that. I don't know of any way that you can work as an LVN unless you pass NCLEX-PN. You really have my empathy. And, for now, the priority is to pay bills and eat while you work on defeating the NCLEX demon. Good luck!!

I just got info. on it today...it's a social service certification program to be in the social services in a nursing home...any idea of what i might be doing in that field???? It's a 36 hour course and U would have to pay $280 for it...please anybody give me ideas on what social services do...thanks!

I think that the social service certification course would be for someone who already has a degree in the social services.

I am sorry that you are having a tough time with Nclex. If you don't want to work as an aide, perhaps you should find a job that allow you enough time to study for your nclex. Just a job that pays to meet your basic needs, then concentrate on studying for Nclex.

Do you take practice exams on computer? I know they really helped me.

Legitimate social workers in the US are educated at the baccalaureate level and have a minimum of 4 years of college under their belts. In other words, they all have earned BSW degrees (bachelor of social work), and many have MSWs (master of social work).

I suspect the social services certification is for people who are already degreed in humanities majors such as psychology, sociology, philosophy, or classics, and would like to work in this field.

You don't have idea what kind of people used to apply there..Lpns, Cmas, Phlebotomists...

Please. . .let's not go there. Don't belittle the CNAs, since they have the most physically grueling jobs in the healthcare food chain. :)

Hahaha I do have my CNA certification...

I explain her that the only way that they can train a social worker on site or whatever is that the social worker is CNA...under a different name..(has nothing to do with the job)...

What I think TheCommuter is saying is how the message sort of came across. What we need to do is show a bit of empathy and support for the OP, because at the moment, she is frustrated, frightened and has financial issues that need to be addressed.

I felt your pain honey, i failed the first time, and i lost my permit, i'm home studying to take it the second time, i worked as an home health caregiver, it's really helping me pay my bills while i concentrate with my studies. Try doing that!
