  1. Dear Meg I am curious to know what did you decided back in Spring? How did it go? I am starting this fall and I registered for 2 classes at UMDNJ and another class somewhere else. The reason is known: Want to be able to start specialty classes next fall 2013. Your input (anybody's input) is highly appreciated. Elena
  2. I am glad I didn't attend that school. They prejudiced me because of my accent..I offered to pay school in cash back then and was told no. They were afraid I will not pass and will lower their passing rate despite I did better than more on the NET test and passed it and I had been in this country just for a couple of days. I had already a bachelor from my country. Anyway, long story short.. I did go to another LPN school and was on top of my class , will be done with my RN by May and doing great there and looking forward to Masters program in nursing managment. They lost... And I am not sure but a girl attending there told me that they do not give loans or financial aid..25 thousands what a rip off..
  3. I don't undestand your question, sorry.. Job at hospital? Must be a joke. There is no such a thing,,., You can study wherever you want, Hohokus or other little matters. Your background in healthcare field ( if any) counts more since there is no nursing shortage. You will be lucky to get a job..there are positions but they all require experience...that isn't the point for you right now. You pick a schools that fits your needs, and pass it. LPn program is very very difficult if no healthcare backround or college A&P classes. Don't hesitate to ask questions at any time, ok? Good luck.. Good luck..
  4. GOOD FOR YOU.. Now you are talking different..I have seen lazy workers in any aspect..Unit secretaries, RNs, techs..but never say all of them...
  5. Oh really????? Where do you work?..I like that place where LPNs do nothing.. Give us a break..it is a shame writing like that for your coworkers..
  6. I have been down to both paths. Took my CMA, Phlebotomy, EKG, CCT certifications while in MA school in 9 months.. There is no comparison either in educational either in competency aspect. In MA program we just touched A&P, very very basic. A lot of labs, computer classes, billing and coding, terminology, physics, ultrasound classes etc. Most of us made it.. For me it was sooooooooo easy that I never open my books, never did homework never ( English is my second language).....and I finished with a GPA 4.. then started the LPN school. Whoever didn't have any educational background or hadn't take the NET test before..didn't make it , those all were gone in the first weeks or during the semesters.. The only who made it either had other degrees or RN prepreqs. We started 30 and finished 5. The program is very very intense.. Anyway, as I said did both..Can not compare ...because are totally different..and there is no need to compare who knows more and who is better..Both are wonderful. Nursing is difficult, nurses have a license that put at risk every day, LPN have from 30 up to 60 patients per shift and all together , wounds, meds, teaching, injections, post op, no doctor with them on the floor.. etc.etc. MA work under doctor's license with the doctor there and have 2-3 patients at the time, mostly Vital signs and injections. An MA shouldn't do any IV therapy because is not under her certification and duty and should be certified to do venipuncture,,Doctors make them do all those cause is all about money.....I would never do anything am not licensed or certified to do. What MA does depends on the practice they work for..they can do front office or clinical or both..They don't get paid enough for what they do..that's for sure.. Now I am in the RN program. Never regret that I went the long path. I have wonderful friends from MA program. Some are going in nursing, some will be MA forever because that is what they love to do...
  7. just don't.. I heard they are closing..but don't shout the messenger..
  8. Holy Name is definitely a better school. no doubt..The price must be the same.. Holy has a RN bridge program..Hohokus wants to brings it but...not written ..not done.. Pros..one of the best schools in nation..and the best passing rate Cons... they don't hire their own RN nurses at Holy Hospital..Isn't that weird?? They kicked them out of Valley because Valley doesn't hire LPNs anyway so what the reason to train them..
  9. Every other Saturday.. Valley kicked the school out so beside Bergen...there is Care One, Wanaque LTC and another one for Hackensack school.. Forget about hospitals... Good luck..
  10. well, it is not so unfair.. If students don't use gloves..forget the basic I&O and cannot push med..or forget to wash their hands and provide privacy, or don't know what classifies as vital sign...i guess they have to be failed.. Even a CNA won't forget to do all these..( except pushing meds).. next time the experience from the failing will help.. I know about stress ..but still ..
  11. the demand is high for CNA up here..Hospital pays 12-15 /hr. Nursing home pay around 14 and assisted living 10-11. I don't see any difference here with Florida. In Fl you earn less, you spend less. In NJ you earn more, you spend more. You are welcome to come for the change ( I hate the weather there too) but if you are coming for the big bucks , be ready to work 2 jobs.. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  12. My self being a phlebotomist with still current license but never worked as one, never saw too many jobs as phlebotomist or dialysis at least when I was looking for a position . But if there are some why would you be interested?? You are gonna be a nurse right?? As a nurse you will get if not the triple, at least the double money.. And you need a separate certification to work as phlebotomist or dialysis tech anyway.. Good luck with your NCLEX..
  13. good luck...you can do it..
  14. i thought you are a student nurse.. you are asking help for somebody else or for you?? nothing is impossible but i wouldn't risk my license just for having a cool position in icu .. i don't care who eats who...i gave you my opinion very friendly..i am sorry for doing that..good luck..
  15. You maybe want to take whatever the school will offer you..if any..which probably will be a position in doctors office. I remember those schools which are business schools anyway let the staff tell us that as a coder we will earn up to 50 bucks per hr.I asked her why she teaches for 30 when she can go for the 50??
