LPN's in FLA......IV certification?

I am a new grad and working on the med/surg floor at my hospital. I have not yet taken the IV certification class but one is comeing up in about one month. I am currently on orientation at the hospital and my manager told the girl who is orientateing me to have me start trying to to IV's. YIKES! Is my first thought because this was never covered in class and I thought this is what I am suppose to learn in IV certification class. Can I get in trouble for this? Should I just do as my manager says and practice sticking people? Need some advice, don't want to loose my job over it but want to do the right thing. Thanks!

Sorry, not in your scope of practice. If your board of nursing get a wind of it or someone complain, you could lose your license!

I don't believe LPNs are legally able to work with IVs unless they're IV-certified.

You must take a Florida approved IV therapy course. When I was an LPN in FLorida, I took the IV course at the local community college. Employers usually ask if you have taken a board approved course. This should be part of your file...I wouldn't do it until I took the IV therapy class.
