  1. Posted this a few years back just follow the link! But remember you can only work in a federal institution once you are licensed unless you belong to that state. Most states does not accept endorsement from challenging the board, but rather require diploma from an accredited school. Don't waste your time get your papers ready and study. If you are still in the service check excelsior for your RN it's a self paced study. It is covered by TA. Before retiring a few years back I obtain my LVN license from california and worked in a federal Medical Center. I started GS6 position + percs. Most of my counterpart did not avail to this opportunity and work as a nursing assistant, or ambulance driver/attendant after the military. The difference in pay is about $7/hr. If you go CA, send your last 3 EPR's that shows bedside nursing experience. I wear the same boot once, just trying to help a fellow Medical Service Specialist. If you know what what I mean you been in long enough that we probably serve in the same flight somewhere. Aim High AF! https://allnurses.com/forums/f57/navy-doc-needs-info-going-lvn-lpn-152178.html#post1602668
  2. I have posted this a few years back check this out! But remember once you are licensed you can only work in a federal installation, like the VA, fed prison, uniformed services bases. etc. https://allnurses.com/forums/f57/navy-doc-needs-info-going-lvn-lpn-152178.html#post1602668
  3. Currently Short and Long term rehab. Before I was a nurse: Med-Surg, Same Day Surgery, ER, L&D, NICU, Clinic. Wish to go back to ERRRR! There's no other joy than pushing those Ewald tube and seeing those pill fragments run down the reservoir and the patient walks out of your ERRRR. Besides starting 14 and 16 gauge IV cath in trauma, Wow!
  4. Thank you, Commuter for your kind words. But the fact is that California is the only state that charge and outrageous renewal fees for their LVN. The rest of the nation is equal to or less, besides Wisconsin that charge LPN $6 more than RN. Your State of Texas only charge 67 for both. What if they charge you $40 dollars more than the RN would you be outrage too? I guess 52 thousand plus LVN in California has no voice on this topic since nobody responded to this thread. Thanks a bunchJ
  5. Can somebody please enlighten me about the disparity between LVN which RN renewal fees in California. LVN pays $125 while RN only pays $85. How is it based? The less education you have the more you pay or does LVN earned more than RN's in cali.? Thanks a bunch.
  6. The only way you can please these nurses is to have everything ready for them save them time to do the work. When I have a patient who needs IV push. I have everything ready for them to do the pushing, syringe, meds, alcohol, needles or whatevery safe thing you do at your facility. I print the order for them to verify. It will only take 5 min. of Rn's time. I worked with some LPN's that, because they are not allowed to do it just don't care and would only tell the Nurse that so and so needs IV push. To get respected at your job you have to make that extra efforts to get noticed. Like wise they need you. Hanging blood for example It needs two licensed to verify the blood, so they need you if it's there patient.
  7. No, Too much responsibility for your scope of practice. Why would you do it when you don't get conpensated for it?
  8. Tell them Elvis left the building!
  9. Have no fear I am an experienced medical technician in the military. I am the living proof why California has this option. Callifornia is tapping a reach resource of clinically experienced medical technician trained by the best instructors. I got my licensed thru chalenging the NCLEX-PN in california because I was qualified by: 1. Being in ex-military trained as a Medical Technician. 2. That had taken Pharmacology course 3. Had one year bedside experience in Med-surg I am lucky enough to have been given this oppurtunity or I would have end up being a CNA in the civilian world with too much experience on my hand. Let me educate you about our military medics. We are the CNA and LPN mold into one. Your military medics are supervised by RN or a Physician. In the unit the RN supervises the medics. In the Emergency Room your doctors supervises your medics. This is the main reason that we can do a lot of procedures. What I mean is that in the ER we do casting, suture wounds of course not in the face, IV, NG, foley and some that I can's talk to in this forum. Oh! did I mention we injection and immunization too. The the units pretty much the same without the casting and suturing. Your medics while in the service can be certified in ACLS, PALS, ATLS, and NRP defending on their job description ( the area where they work). We have this highly trained individuals in the Air Force we call "Pararescue" their training is about 2-3 years they are equivalent to a Physician assistant. This group of individuals when you drop them in a hot LZ (people shooting at you) will save your life by any means, or even lose their own sometimes. So, before you venture into such an undertaking to be an LVN/LPN thru chalenging the boards ask yourself? Am I experienced enough to be an LVN? Is my patient safe with my care? If you answer Yes, buy an NCLEX-PN book and start studying. If, No stop and go to LPN school. To all our military medics past and present Thank You for serving our country. Romeo Lima signing off!
  10. Do you think US nurses wait 2 years for this nursing abuse? I don't think so. Professional white slavery in my opinion. Why? They recruit you with promises then when you arrived here, a horible working condition. You try to complaint but since you are petitioned by the sponsor's they think they own you. End of their shift and also their lawyer told them to quit. So I think no abandonment here. Just a group of people reaching a critical boiling point. It will be interesting to follow the development of this case. I hope the poster can supply the link to this story. Just my 2 cents. :)
  11. I was just wandering? Did you get two orders from the doctor to mix this two meds or did the instruction came from a product insert? I guess it could happen. Like Rocephen can be mixed with lidocaine to minimize discomfort when given IM especially for children but to mix meds with other drug it has to be ordered by the doctor.
  12. Some lazy advisor doesn't want to do their job but it's easy for them to lie to you. Big fat lie! I should go back to him or her to find documentation of that rumor. Just another ploy, to keep you in that expensive program. Don't be forced to go into a field that you don't like. Talk to a lawyer or check your agreement for a clause to get you out of that program. I would talk to the dean or some higher up about this lie and why this is perpetuated by an advisor. Their job is to guide you to the right path.
  13. Have you considered VA Nursing? Your license is good in any federal facility in the country. To answer your question yes, they will accept it if they count towards your major. The only college that I know of that will credit most of your military experience is Excelsior College. From my experience I have to start from the bottom going thru a Community College in my area.
  14. You did not mention how much time you have left in the service? Here are what I have gathered so far lurking around web sites. Some States will allow you to challege their LVN/LPN exam. Check this out! http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/forms.htm http://www.op.nysed.gov/nurse2eq.pdf http://www.ok.gov/nursing/nclex7.pdf check out page 2 (AF/Army) no mention of USMC but call the board anyway http://www.lpnboard.state.wv.us/ check out 10.2.2 you qualify only after being out of military requires discharge papers :)
  15. Sorry, not in your scope of practice. If your board of nursing get a wind of it or someone complain, you could lose your license!
