HIgh School LPN program?
MOM2CASSIDY, It's been about 2 years since I looked into the LPN program at ECPI in Manassas. I am looking to take classes during the day since I mostly work overnight. If I remember correctly the day classes are only a year long? Maybe I will think about talking to a representative again. How much is the program cost? When I was thinking of going it was $19,250. ~Amber~

HIgh School LPN program?
hello, My name is Amber and I work for a hospice home health agency as a caregiver. I have been trying for years to get into an LPN program. The community college near me offers the program but from where I live it's almost a 2 hour drive, so that is definately not an option for me at the moment. The other place I was thinking of going was ECPI college of Technology in Manassas but they basically told me that I would have to quit working in order to keep up with my classes. The cost would be around $20,000. Then there is a high school LPN program for both seniors in high school and adults which would cost $7,200 and for the first 9 months would only be 2 hours a day in the classroom. The last 9 months would be both clinical and classroom work. The school is accredited by the Nursing Board of Virginia. Also, most of the LPN's who graduate from the program are able to get temporary licenses after they take the exam and are offered jobs before graduation. I was just wondering if any of you went through a program like this? If so was it worth it?Thanks! ~Amber~

Just saying thanks!
Hello, I just wanted to say thanks because although I have not posted on allnurses.com in a while I have followed discussions and what I have seen on here has helped me realize I need to start planning to make my dream of becoming a nurse a reality. After having some issues arise that have kept me from pursing my career in the nursing field I have finally decided to go take a CNA class through a nursing home in Northern Va. My goal is to become a Registered Nurse and work in Pediatrics eventually but at the moment I'm unable to finance nursing school. I'm hoping that the nursing home which is within walking distance of where I am living will offer tuition assistance, and I am planning on applying for the HCA scholarship which is a full scholaship to go to either nursing school or for those who want to become a Radiology Technologist but I have to start and finish my Pre-requisites before I apply. I know CNA's don't make very much money but it's a starting point for me and I am just happy that at the age of 24 I am finally able to start looking into giving myself a better future. I have worked in the past as a Medication Technician for the handicapped and have done many of the same duties that CNA's do but I was never able to become Certified through MD, but I know what I am getting myself into atleast. The program I am going through is free as long as I agree to work part-time for the facility after I go thru the class and get certified which is fine by me because I will need a job while I am getting my Math's, English's and other requried classes out of the way. For a while I wasn't sure if I wanted to be a nurse or not because I have heard that most nurse's either don't like the way they are treated or they don't feel like the pay is consistant with the work load they are demanded to do. fortunately, I have an aunt who has been a nurse for 22 years who told me that nursing is just like any other job, there will be the ups and downs, the problems just like in any other job but if I enjoy helping others and taking care of those in need than I should stick with Nursing because the field needs compassionate people and I am very compassionate and I live to help those in need. Anyhoo, I really enjoy allnurses.com and think its a wonderful place to find info, guidance and friendship. I will check back with you all soon and let you know how my CNA classes are going! ~Amber~

liability Insurance?
I just took a look at the website and it said only $29 a year. That really isnt bad at all. Thanks. Amber

liability Insurance?
Do most LPN programs require you to have some kind of liability insurance? The reason I am asking is because The prince William School of practical nursing says you must have your own liability coverage. Is the liability insurance expensive?I am seriously thinking about applying if I'm not already too late for the deadline and that would be one of the drawbacks for me since I am not working at the moment. ECPI college I believe has insurance for all of it's LPN students already. I am begining to wonder if maybe I should just stay at ECPI for that reason alone.

LPN's Are they really being phased out?
LOL You know I wondered that myself. I have a lot of questions I plan on asking ECPI on Tuesday.

LPN's Are they really being phased out?
I've been looking all day for LPN programs around the area and found one at a local public school. I'm sure it wont cost anywhere near $24,000 and its supposedly accredited. The only thing I have to do is contact them and see if they have any available seats for there next classes and then see if what im hearing is true about paying back the whole tuition to ECPI. I always thought you only had to pay for as many classes as you took but we'll see after all I still have to run this by my parents because I'll need theeir help paying.

Prince william school of practical nursing?
Have any of you ever heard of the prince william school of practical nursing program ? Apparently it is done by the Prince william public schools and will prepare you for the NCLEX exam? I have called to request an application packet and information. I have heard it is not as expensive as the college I am now attending and wished I had found out about this before I made my decision. The classes are 3 hours every day, and 7 hours for clinical days. It would work along better with my schedule(I want to volunteer at the local hospital) For adults it is a 18-month program and I find I will learn more than I would at ECPI. Also I will get clinical experience in the prince william hospital which is one of the main reason's I am looking into the program. I will start working as a nutrition aide hopefully in a couple weeks and volunteer as well. I will definately have to talk to ECPI about transferring and my parents since they are doing the parent plus thing. Hopefully it will all work out for me. Oh I do have one more question and then I will stop bugging you all. What classes should a LPN take during the preclinical studies? Would it be Fundamentals of nursing, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and pharmacology??? Thanks. I promise I will shut up now and leave you alone :). Amber

LPN's Are they really being phased out?
I absolutely agree that staying in the program I am in is a waste of time and money. I have been trying to find another college that is cheaper and has a LPN program. I dont really want to have to pay some of my tuition back if I decide to leave, that is one of the reason's I've had to consider staying in the MA program. Right now I am not working and would not be able to pay back any money. $23,750 is a lot of money and even the LPN program at ECPI is around $20,000. As for them telling me I can't transfer over to their LPN program, what is that all about? I've already told them I dont care if none of my credits transfer and I have to end up paying a little more money because of it. The MA credits wont transfer for RN anyway so I'm not willing to waste my time on it. I keep asking questions and all I'm getting in response is "LPN's are being phased out and it would be in your best interest to remain in the MA program." I have a great GPA 3.8 and I think I have proven that I am intelligent enough to take the courses for LPN. I don't like what I am being taught. (Medical Office Administration, Medical Office Procedures) The worst part is none of my instructors speak english well enough to teach and my grades are suffering more and more because of it. Nothing at all is being done about it and I have talked to the head of my department many times. Sorry, I believe I just needed to vent my frustrations lol. Amber

LPN's Are they really being phased out?
I really always have wanted to be a nurse, not a MA, but the advisors at my school wont help me out at all. They say I cannot transfer over to their LPN program. I believe that I should not be forced to stay in the MA program if I don't wish too. If I decide to leave the college I am at now I will have to pay money back because of the loans I took out and there are no other colleges around here that offer the LPN program, atleast not any I have come across. I have to make a decision within the next 2 weeks or I will have to pay the full price of tution $23,750 because it is a private college. My boyfriend and parents both support my decision to become a LPN, it's just the college I am fighting with right now!

LPN's Are they really being phased out?
Some of the advisors at the college i'm attendin are saying that LPN's are being completely phased out. I was advised against the LPN program at ECPI by 2 different advisors even though my heart was set on being a nurse not a MA. Have any of you noticed that LPN's are actually being phased out? I know if I were to switch to the LPN program that I would eventually bridge over to RN. I guess what i'm asking is do you see the phasing out happening in the next couple of years? Thanks. Amber

Medical Assistant Or LPN?
Thank you all so much for clearing up a few things for me. I definately believe I should switch from my MA program to the LPN program at my school. I have always been interested in becoming a nurse, and would eventually like to bridge over to RN. I was told by my advisor that MA credits would be transferable and they apparently are not. I was also initially looking into the LPN program at the time of enrollment but was persuaded against it. I'm more interested in the clinical aspect of the job as a MA than the front desk position. I have some training as an EMT and have seen a lot of horrible things. I was trained to not give into my emotions on the job unless it was appropriate for me to do so. I have to see what classes will transfer over but thank you for all your responses they have helped me make my decision.

LPN program/agencies?
Thanks, I got a little confused because some of the agencies around here are only for nurse's willing to travel and they get paid around $17.00/hr.

LPN program/agencies?
Hello everyone, I am currently attending ECPI college of technology for the Medical Assistant program but am really considering switching over to the LPN program. Initially, that is what I wanted to do but was talked out of it by my advisor. Medical Assisting is not what I want to do at all. I know that the LPN program is more extensive but I work at the hospital as a Nutrition aide/receptionist and they are willing to work around my schedule. I eventually want to become an RN and work at the same hospital. Could someone explain to me what an agency is? Do you do a lot of traveling? Thanks. Amber
