In a LPN rut

Nurses LPN/LVN

I need help. I am so lost, I am so confused about my life. Been an LPN for over 25 yrs. and no place will hire me now because all I've done for last 11 yrs. is home care. I do not want nursing home or home care any longer. I don't want to pass pills to 1,000 people and make a mistake. My question is: Do I just go back to school as a Medical Assistant or a PCT? I don't want a ton of responsibility anymore. My husband makes the money so it's not about money really. I just want to work doing something I like. Do I just take an LPN refresher class? Got IV certified many years ago, never did an IV in my life still. Do not know how to do an EKG nor remember how to half the injections. I really need help here. Anyone in same boat? I'm in Tampa FL. and am almost 48 now.

Thanks much!

If it's not really about the money, sit down and think about what you really, really want to do. You still have (if you want) a few more years in the work place. Do what you really want to do.

I'm looking for work in a bookstore because I love books and will just keep my very small LPN position because I have a pension attached to it.

I can sure relate to your post! I have been an LVN since 1990! The last 8 years have been in homecare. I just took a new position as a classroom nurse in an elementary special day class and I love it. The hours are great- 8:30-3p. I feel like I am really providing a great service enabling the students a chance to attend school and learn. I give all the meds, tube feed, monitor 02, check BS and seizure/falls precautions. It has been very rewarding so far and a nice change of pace.

I would try an MD office. Why go back to school for medical assisting if you can just work as an LPN in the same setting.

Thanks guys! I am not sure an office will hire me since they mostly want only Medical Assistants now, at least here in Tampa. Would not mind school nurse but see no openings. I love babysitting wee ones, maybe I will just stick with that. Miss babies so much!!!
