GA Scope of Practice

Nurses LPN/LVN

This title may not be new, but my question is. Which LPN job in Georgia have the widest scope of practice? So far, I have heard that it depend on the facilities policies that you are in. I just wanted to know, because I would like to get the most skills I can learn as an LPN.

I think your question is a little off-kilter, in that it isn't the JOB that the LPN does in Georgia that determines the scope of practice....it is the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Georgia that does. You can find the broadest information on that BoN website.

After that, it DOES depend on the facility policy as to what you can and cannot do at that facility. Your nursing school should be preparing you to learn "the most skills you can"; whether you get to use them all is really up to whatever employer you find when the time comes.

Good luck!

I work urgent care in GA & I practice a lot of skills I learned in school such as: iv's, injections, venipuncture, occasional caths, X-rays & casting,( didn't learn that in school),patient education, and a couple of other things. It mostly depends on where u work & the nurse practice acts

I've read the Nursing Act published by the State of Georgia but it honestly doesn't address LPNs at all. It addresses RN, APRN and CRNA. There is no scope of practice defined by Georgia which is unfortunate since we have no clear guidelines in which we are allowed to practice. Even the "Decision Tree" that was put out by GA has the first step as referring to the Scope of Practice which is non-existent.

I'm facing a very difficult issue at my present job with an RN that basically acts like an LPN is too dumb to do any nursing activities. Trying to determine my role in the practice has been brutal.
