LSU School of Nursing SPRING 2014 :-)

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hey guys...I started the LSU Fall 2013 Thread and got wait listed ... haven't heard anything back from them except that all their spots are full. So I'm getting ready to apply for their spring semester. For the rest of the folks who got wait listed with me let's get to making things happen for spring! I welcome any advice or pointers. I also went through the whole interview process, if anyone has anything to share or any questions please don't hesitate to post.

@Chin05 I was wondering how the A&P you have taken counts for nursing school? I've been told that the only classes you can take prior to nursing school that count are abnormal psyh, statistics, and a third humanities. I am taking anatomy at LSU this fall semester but I was under the assumption that it would just prepare me for when I take it in nursing school.

@lguid I took both A&P I & II because a few other programs I am applying to require they be completed. That's the only way I can fulfill their requirements was if I took both. It's not recommended that you take the class out of LSUHSCs system but I did because of the other programs I applied to. I do plan on retaking physiology just to get a better understanding of everything though. As long as it's part I & II they'll accept it unless they've changed it in the last year.

This may be a silly question, but are women required to register for the federal draft? My mom works with the LA National Guard and said she doesn't think women are required to yet, so she just told me to put "I'm not required to because I'm a female" in that section of the application. What did y'all do for that part?

@gerbz that's correct. Females are not required by law to register only males lol and nonsense no such thing as a silly question. It's better to get it right on the first try instead of saying dang it I should have asked.

Ok so I'm finished with my essay and plan on turning in my application tomorrow. It seemed like the title is really important and this is making me nervous. What I have right now is like a short sentence about nursing/the mission and vision of the school. I'm trying to make it more "creative." Any pointers or ideas on how you came up with yours?

@Chin05 ah, thank you! I'm just freaking out trying to make sure everything's okay before I send off my app lol the deadline is approaching quickly

1) Your paper should be 2 pages double spaced.

2) If you are applying for the traditional BSN program, letter of recommendations are not required. If you want to include them, you can. However, they will not improve your chances of being accepted. If you are applying for their accelerated program (CARE), letters of recommendations are required.

3) If you go to LSU's nursing website and click CURRENT STUDENTS to the right of the page. Then scroll down to CALENDARS/SCHEDULES and click COURSE SCHEDULES. It will tell you right off the bat what time you will be in class and on what day.

Awesome! Thanks a bunch!!!

Yep! I just finished editing my paper and everything a couple days ago. I just have to figure out a title and will hopefully mail my application by tomorrow. How's your paper coming along?

I'm still working on it all. I've been brainstorming but I'm about to get started on typing it right after I send this comment. I'm hoping to finish my paper by Friday and send out my application definitely by Tuesday, but I'm shooting for Monday. Haha.

@chin05

@withlovejP pretty much what @Happy1634 said. No need for letter of recommendation. When I went to the information session last year they stressed the importance of making sure we have the 5 things listed on their website - completed signed application, $50 check, Goal statement paper, all official sealed transcripts from every college or university you've ever attended and your HESI score but that of course will be sent directly to the school. if you aren't applying for CARE no need for letters of recommendations.

Same for the schedule go to their website and check it out. I've already taken A&P I and A&P II so I won't need to take Anatomy and Physiology. I won't be able to take any other classes in advance either so I'll pretty much have a lighter load my first semester - whenever the accept me :nailbiting:

Thanks a bunch! That's good for you that your first semester will be easy peasy. I'm sure you'll get in! Be confident! I'm sure I will too! Goodluck!! :)

Hi everyone! First time on the boards here. I've been slacking on the goal paper but hopefully i'll have it handed to LSU by this friday.

ive been skimming the past threads trying to get a gauge on who gets in and who doesn't.

I've been reading that some people got in with a 3.5 gpa and 80 HESI while others with a higher gpa and HESI score that didnt, so needless to say, I'm a little nervous!

My GPA is 3.0 and i scored an 85 on the HESI. My CT is 870. however my overall GPA is at about a 2.5 or 2.6. =\

I know the interview is a huge factor, but im hoping my scores and goal paper is good enough to at least grant me the interview!

Anyone else have a similar gpa and hesi score that's trying to get in? And what are your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of a male that's going for something in a seemingly female dominant field?

@WonderBread I think it's honorable what you are doing. My bf is a nurse and he loves it. Sometimes there are those stereotypes that come with nursing being a female dominant field but if it's what you really and truly want to do I say go for it! The only thing that's stopping you is you. As for the gpa situation - LSU tells you straight up that the only GPA that matters will be the one's for their pre requisites and overall for the classes needed before the program. They have a gpa calculator on their webiste under their prospective student tab. Put your grades in it so it can give you a more accurate calculation of your gpa. My last degree my overall gpa was a 2.5 or something I really can't remember but I know it was crappy. However I did really well my freshman and sophomore year in college and all of those were prerequistes for this program so my overall gpa is like a 3.2/3.3 now I can't remember. I scored in the 80's on my HESI and I got wait listed. So needless to say you won't know if you'll get in unless you try. So just do it. I've also been denied by a few other schools but it's what I really want so I will keep trying until I get in. Besides it's their loss if they don't accept me. I think I'm one sweet package!

Hey y'all,

I am applying for the spring and am incredibly nervous!! I have a questions about the humanities requirement... I've taken a ton of different humanities classes. Does anybody know which courses will they use for the prerequisite GPA? Will they take the two highest grades or maybe the most recently taken? I'd much rather they use the A's than the C's, but you never know! If anybody could shed some light, I'd be so thankful :shy:

Hey guys,

Do you all have any idea how many applicants are accepted in for the programs per season?
