LSU School of Nursing SPRING 2014 :-)

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hey guys...I started the LSU Fall 2013 Thread and got wait listed :unsure:... haven't heard anything back from them except that all their spots are full. So I'm getting ready to apply for their spring semester. For the rest of the folks who got wait listed with me let's get to making things happen for spring! I welcome any advice or pointers. I also went through the whole interview process, if anyone has anything to share or any questions please don't hesitate to post.

Hey everyone! :)

I will also be applying to LSU School of Nursing for spring 2014. I'm currently at the University of New Orleans.

I have a question about the transcript we're supposed to send in with the application. I ordered my official transcript online at http://www.iwantmytranscript.com and*received it through email yesterday. Is this what I need to send in along with my app? I'm just confused because it said we need an official, sealed transcript.

Thanks!

Gabby

@CMB1 The HESI only makes up a percentage of the overall consideration for an applicant. They factor in GPA, Interview, HESI, and your personal statement. Each applicant is given 1 number and that's how they decide whether you are accepted, put on the waitlist, or denied.

-- Hey Gabby!

What I did was I requested mine from my campus and asked for it to be printed out and sealed in a envelope as LSU requests so that I can put it in with my application. What you did I believe is called a e-script as my school called it. If I were you, I'd be safe as to just going to UNO to request a transcript to be given to you and sealed. I should cost about $10. Hope that helps!

@CMB1 I don't think your HESI score is miserable enough to decrease your chances. My gpa was a 3.3 and HESI 88 I got wait listed so i'm reapplying. I think you have a pretty good chance. Submit a solid essay and shoot for an awesome interview and I think you should be fine.

@withlovejp I had an old professor help me with my personal statement. KISS method keep it short and sweet. You are trying to sell yourself in a few paragraphs. Not only that, they've never met you before so this is your first impression. Try to hit the strong points about your personality and why you want to become a nurse, mention the core values of the school etc. but don't sound like a commercial if that makes any sense. It's good to also familiarize yourself with their core values. A few of my interview questions were indirectly based off of their core values. Good luck!

@withlovejP thank you! I just went to UNO and they gave me exactly what I needed. I'm so glad I asked because I was going to send in the e-script, which is totally different from the real thing :)

No problem! Have you started on your goal statement paper?

Omg, you're such of help right now to me. I'm freaking out writing about this paper and I didn't know where to start. But based of what you commented, I think I know what to do now. Thank you!

I have a few other questions.

1) I know the paper has to be no more then 2 pages, but that definitely doesn't and shouldn't be doubled spaced right?

2) Would you happen to know if letters of recommendations are required or if it'd be okay to include them in applications anyway? Because I could've sworn back then, it was required..?

3) Do you have any ideas what the hours are like later when freshman students are accepted? Because if applications are due by August 15 and applicants are being asked for interviews by September and students are actually accepted by October/November... my boss is going to have to find a new girl to work in the office if I get accepted and if the class hours are around 9-5.

Sorry if that is an overload. I'm just trying to prepare myself the best way possible.

@withlovejP

1) Your paper should be 2 pages double spaced.

2) If you are applying for the traditional BSN program, letter of recommendations are not required. If you want to include them, you can. However, they will not improve your chances of being accepted. If you are applying for their accelerated program (CARE), letters of recommendations are required.

3) If you go to LSU's nursing website and click CURRENT STUDENTS to the right of the page. Then scroll down to CALENDARS/SCHEDULES and click COURSE SCHEDULES. It will tell you right off the bat what time you will be in class and on what day.

@withlovejP

Yep! I just finished editing my paper and everything a couple days ago. I just have to figure out a title and will hopefully mail my application by tomorrow. How's your paper coming along?

@withlovejP pretty much what @Happy1634 said. No need for letter of recommendation. When I went to the information session last year they stressed the importance of making sure we have the 5 things listed on their website - completed signed application, $50 check, Goal statement paper, all official sealed transcripts from every college or university you've ever attended and your HESI score but that of course will be sent directly to the school. if you aren't applying for CARE no need for letters of recommendations.

Same for the schedule go to their website and check it out. I've already taken A&P I and A&P II so I won't need to take Anatomy and Physiology. I won't be able to take any other classes in advance either so I'll pretty much have a lighter load my first semester - whenever the accept me :nailbiting:

@Chin05 I was wondering how the A&P you have taken counts for nursing school? I've been told that the only classes you can take prior to nursing school that count are abnormal psyh, statistics, and a third humanities. I am taking anatomy at LSU this fall semester but I was under the assumption that it would just prepare me for when I take it in nursing school.
