Charity SON Fall 2012

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hello Everyone!

I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?

I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!

I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75! :uhoh3:

Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!

Thanx! @kubana87 also do u remember what did the nurse Pak come with? Thnx for all the info u give, it has helped me!

Specializes in ICU, ED.

i think it comes with 2 sterile field packets which is like to clean sterile wounds so basically one is to practice and the other one the instructor is watching you do it like putting on sterile gloves picking up instruments from the sterile field cleaning a sterile wound so if you do it right she will check you off on that skill if not you have to go another day and do it i think u have 3 chances after that I think they drop you from the class but dont worry i was nervous the first time but its no big deal. You will have check off throughout the semester like counting respiration, pulse, blood pressure and the teacher will listen with you to the beats she counts and you count and the count has to be withing 2-4 difference if you get 65 beats and instructor gets 72 theyll late you do it again 3 different times and with all check off thats your chances if not u know what happens. I had to do it again it happens to everyone depending on instructor how picky they are mine was very picky some instructors were not so much. U also have check offs for taking temperature, giving shots med administration ect........

Mamisu, the whole thing with financial aid is screwed up for a lot of people. There are some people that are being told they can't get their financial aid b/c they have too many hrs and/or already have a degree. These people have turned in appeals, etc... They could have let them know this before 3 wks of starting school. It's something to do with the budget cuts from the governor. It's worse if u have a degree b/c supposedly, they don't want to give u the $$ to get another degree. I don't have a degree, but I have 123 hrs. I put an appeal in, but it has not been reviewed yet. Don't know if any if this pertains to you, but in case anyone else reading this is in the same boat, you're not alone. Other students have tried to call, but no answer. This all went down yesterday.

Does anyone know if we have to wear black tennis shoes w/ the navy scrubs?? This is just something I've heard. So, we can't just wear any color??

Oh wow! That explains why since yesterday I've been trying to get in touch with someone in financial aid. I'm so thankful though that today as I was hanging up my last call to that dept. I saw an email telling me that my award was now ready to b accepted, so I logged in and accepted my awards! Yaaaayy!!! Now I have to wait until the 8th when they're releasing it to pay tuition and stuff. So check your emails guys!!!

About the navy blue uniforms, I don't which shoes u need to wear with that but I would think that it any tennis shoes would be fine since it is optional to get those uniforms and they didn't even mentioned those at orientation at all.

So, they said that everybody has clinicals the first day of school at CSN at 8:00am, but they didn't say how are we supposed to go dressed like since we're not having clinicals that day at hospital site. Does anybody know anything about that?

We can wear any color shoes with the blue scrubs. They are not mandatory.

Mamisu we have to be at school for 730 not 8am. For those who are still waiting on aid talk to Ms. Labat at Charity. She helped alot of us out during orientation. I have already accepted my award. So when they release aid to cover class, when will we be allowed to buy books with the bookstore credit?

I'm planning to buy a monthly pass for the central parking lot on Poydras. How bad is the parking there when school time comes around?

Specializes in Med-Surg.

If I remember correctly, that Basics nurse pak also comes with syringes, needles, ampules, and vials to practice drawing up meds and giving shots. Its basically the supplies you need to practice med administration and do the sterile dressing change checkoff like Kubana said.

For those of you that are already in the school, what shoes do u recommend us buying? Nurse shoes are like $120 and up :/ it says in the packet that we can use tennis shoes too but I would like to know from other's experience which shoes are better.

Where are you looking at nursing shoes? lol

Like Kubana, I just bought a pair of white slip-resistant tennis shoes that were on sale for $29 from this site: Uniforms - Nursing Scrubs, Nursing Uniforms & Medical Scrubs - allheart

They don't have those anymore, but they do have a pretty nice selection of nurse shoes for way less than $120 : Shoes | allheart.com

I'm planning to buy a monthly pass for the central parking lot on Poydras. How bad is the parking there when school time comes around?

Parking is bad the first week of school because EVERYONE is there the first week. After that class times are staggered for the different levels and also people are out at their clinical sites so parking gets better.

I bought a pass for that same lot at the corner of Poydras, and I never had a problem finding a space once things settled down after the 1st week. I'm not sure central will let us buy a pass for that last half of August when school starts, though, so definitely plan on getting there early 1) to get a space, and 2) to avoid the inevitable line that forms at the pay kiosk when that lot gets busy. A good back up is St. Josephs Church which you def have to get there early because it's cheaper and fills up quick.

I'm a new student as well. I plan on getting white tennis and once I graduate I will get nurse shoes. I accepted my financial aid on LOLA maybe two weeks ago. Today I got a letter that showed a credit. Did anyone else get this letter?

hello6921, I would definitely try to get the LSU parking pass first. $125.00 for a semester is not bad at all! It beats paying 60-75.00 monthly.

When do they start the book vouchers? I plan to get my nurse pak and ebooks from the campus bookstore! I ready to start reading those recommended chps
