Charity SON Fall 2012

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hello Everyone!

I know I'm early but I'm super excited to begin nursing school. I was wondering if anyone else here is planning to apply to Charity for Fall 2012? Are you done with your prereqs? Taken the HESI? What's your profile score?

I have taken all of my prereqs but it has been 6 years since I took A&P II lecture/lab so I'm taking it now at Delgado. I'm taking the lecture online and I go on campus for the lab. We have only done one exercise in lab so far and I already feel like its not going to be very easy. I took the HESI on Monday and I did pretty well so I'm done with that thank God!

I calculated my profile score and if I get an A in the A&P lecture I'll have 70 points. If I get a B or C, I'll have 65 points. I'm super nervous because when I talked to the admissions lady at Charity she told me the cut off tends to be a bit higher for the Fall semester than the Spring. From reading the forum, it looks like the cut off for Spring 2012 was around a 55 so I'm worried that the cut off for Fall will be like 75! :uhoh3:

Good luck to everyone and I hope to meet some of my future classmates!

Yea they start a new curriculum this semester for the new class. However how different can it be? Nursing is nursing is the same science same applications. You need a 77 to pass anything under that even if its 76.9999999 wont do it. Once you fall behind its hard to get in track however i know few people that have done it twice i Dont know if they gonna be able to do it for pcn bc its 8 intense weeks. I was so dipressed for by first semester because its totally a new everything. I failed my first test by a point and i have never failed a test in my life so that was a slap in the face, later you find out that failing a test is kind of common and you can get better if you try and study hard. The only fun part is being at the hospital. But charity will give you a good education i know lSU nurses at the unit i work that when they first started they didnt know how to use an insulin pen and i given so many shots on the insulin pen that I couldnt beleive it. youll get the education to be on the floor with no problem.Unlike our friends across the street. lol

Hey guys,

I am not sure what happened to the meet and greet we were attempting...just did not work out but we will all be together at orientation on thursday anyway. I am thinking of taking a roomate or two on at my house in mandeville...anyone looking for a place? I would prefer another student to keep study quiet times consistent. let me know if you have some interest!

They basically said that they took all of the complaints from students over the yrs into consideration when changing the curriculum. Pharmacology is being broken into 2 semesters. And the biggest complaint was pcn and mental health so it's being spaced out, and they're giving us more time with med surg. Don't know of anything else. Yeah, I'm scared of failing too. We're all nervous!!

Wow thats nice, however how spaced out it can be? we go for 4 semesters and then graduate how about for you guys now? If they are spacing out they have to be adding semester of taking off summer. let me know how that works

Thats scary, after you have worked so hard...

Instead of just having 1 class like NAC I or Basics, starting with the 2nd semester, we will have Nursing II, Pharmacology II, and something called Special Populations along with clinicals. Tomorrow, I will post what the classes are called each semester. I have it in the packet that they gave us in our mini-orientation back in April. No matter how different or not different it is though, it's still going to be hard and stressful b/c most of us don't have anything to compare it to.

oh i dont know what thats gonna be like that sounds like alot I already can handle more then 1 class plus clinicals i mean we are in class for basics 4 hours two days a week and 6 hours 2x a week and then pharm another day. PHarmacology was awesome because we had a great instructor easy A but she retired my semester. I heard last semester many basics students failed pharm and that has never happen i guess thats why they want to break it down into 2 semesters. I mean you really have to know your meds and some students just study for the test and then flush but it comes back in other level non pharm test. I would recommed the saunders nlcex review book its awesome i wish i had it for basics!!!
