Becoming a Legal Nurse Consultant

I am sure this is here somewhere, but I can not seem to find a newer post. First, I want to explain my situation. I love my job as a pediatric nurse, but the 12 hour shifts just do not work any more. My husband and I both work 12 hour shifts, and we live an hour away from our family. With that being said, there are no daycares that are open when I would need them to be to watch my daughter, causing me to have to cut back on my hours to just when my husband is home.

I have been looking into different ways to make decent money (either at home, or during the times the daycares are open). All the time I spent getting my degree, I want to put it to good use. I have been told by a lot of people that I should become a legal nurse consultant and I have done a lot of research, but I am afraid of scams. Also, I do not have a lot of money right now to spend on courses.

I guess in all this my questions are as follows:

1. Can I become a legal nurse consultant without taking classes?

2. Do I need to take any exams before I can begin working?

3. How do I get started? (I live in a smaller area, not a huge city)

4. If I have to take courses, how much do they cost?

5. What are your experiences as a legal nurse consultant? (Are the hours flexible, do you make good money, how did you get started, do you work on your own or with a law firm, and how long were you looking for a job before you landed one?)

Thank you for your help!

How much nursing experience do you have? Legal nurses are hired for their experience, not really the degree or training.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Nursery, L&D,.

I currently have 3 years of experience in 2 specialty areas, pediatrics, labor and delivery.

The American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, have wonderful marketing materials for the new LNC. They also conduct a reasonably priced LNC training course, that you can take on line. It is broken into different modules, so you can pace yourself financially to take the course.

Go to their website, and see what they have to offer.
