Look, I am not trying to be a jerk here, but 76 people have looked at this posting and no answer about the wages. Can someone please answer it.

I am from Wisconsin have always liked Kentucky. So when I complete school, I would like to move there. However, I cannot find out what the wages are for hospitals in Louisville.
So, can someone please tell me the wages?

Hi Kevin. I don't live in Lousiville, but close and have inquired about the wages there. At Kosair's Childrens (which is a part of Norton's) I know that they start new grads at $19 an hour and if you work the weekend shift (WOW program- work only weekends Fri, Sat or Sun) you will make time and a half and only have to work 2 shifts, but get paid for three. That's a sweeeeet deal. That's all I know. Hope this helps.

I graduated this past May and that's what I started at and I do work at Kosair, the Children's Hospital. Anyway, info from my other classmates say that we all start at about the same rate at the other local hospitals,also. Hope that helps.

I am in Massachusetts and looking to move to KY. I am hoping the $19 is r/t the lower cost of living? Beginning wage near me is $26-$28/hr.

It depends on your experience, your workplace and your shift. My daughter is an RN, works on a post-surgical unit on the Baylor +1 program (every Sat & Sun plus 1 weekday) and makes 55k-60k per year. She has only been out of RN (AA) school 3 years. (This was her salary for an AA, I think she got a raise since she got her BSN).

I am an LPN with 20+ yrs experience. I was making 34k at the hospital. Now working for an insurance co and making 5k more working for an insurance co. in case management.

I don't know what the cost of living is in Wisconsin, but I know Louisville's cost of living is much less than, say, Chicago.

$19/hr for new grads is correct, and the cost of living is pretty low in Louisville. There are lots of hospitals in the area, so you'll have no problem getting a job. You can Google these for a start:

Kosair is the level 1 trauma peds hospital. Great people working there, and they are a Magnet hospital.

Norton owns Kosair, as well as a couple other hospitals (Audubon, Suburban), medical groups, and intermediate care centers. I'm partial to Norton downtown, though. The ratios there are great, because it has was built with lot of 10 bed pods. Plus, the people there are extremely likeable.

If you want to do adult level 1 trauma, check out U of L hospital. I worked there for years, and loved it before I got burned out on trauma. The ER is top notch, and extremely busy. They're the only level 1 in the region. If you're a type A personality who likes to run on adrenaline, then that's the place for you. They've got some of the smartest nurses I've ever known there, too.

There's also Jewish Hospital. They're a private hospital, though- and extremely customer service oriented. Not my cup of tea, since most of my experience has been in non-profit hospitals, but there are some nice people there.

There are more hospitals, but that should get you started on a job search. All of the above have websites that can tell you more. Good luck!

Is that rate before passing NCLEX or after? I've heard from several people that they will recieve raises after passing the NCLEX. This stuff is so stressful, especially if they drop the loan forgiveness program. UGH!!!
