I really can't help much as I am still a student but this does not sound right. Areas close to L-ville you might check out...Lexington,(Veterans, Central Baptist) Elizabethtown ( Hardin Mem.). Maybe do a google search??? Hope this helps a little.:)

Thanks for your message. I mean the info I have is straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Can anyone working in Louisville give me your experience? How do they get away with not paying weekend diffs?

Hate to bust your bubble but the Norton Healthcare system does not pay weekend shift diff. I came out of school 6 years ago and that was the starting rate 18.50. Norton has a great system with pay rasies over each year, around 2 each year. We do have shift diff for working nights and that is it. Looking at a national poll a couple of weeks ago we are underpaid, big time . I am not for sure, but the starting pay for all the hospitals are about the same. You can make better monies working in a rest home and home health. I have done both. But my love is Peds ICU.

I am also planning to move to Louisville in the near future. Any suggestions on which hospital systems are the best? Any one working in Louisville? Tell me what you like and dislike about your employment. My adult children live there and have finally persuaded me that I should move. Will probably be moving this summer and would like to know if there are places I should definitely apply or avoid. Thanks.

I just moved to the Louisville area and work at Baptist east. I get $1.00/hr more on the weekends, and the 15% diff after 3pm. Hope this helps

I would say not because I am in eastern ky and every nursing jobs pay is about the same as Lous. some places not very good pay at all.....Hope you best of luck:)

Hi all,
I never have any luck in this forum, but I'm trying again. I am moving to Louisville in May 2006. I've spoken with the nurse recruiters at all the hospitals and found that:
base pay is approximately 18.50 at all places
shift differentials are 10-15% with NO weekend diff
IS THIS RIGHT??? This is crazy in my opinion. I am currently in NC where the base is the same, but diffs are A LOT more. Weekend day diff is $10 by itself. I spoke with my nursing director and she couldn't believe the low differential Louisville offers. Does any place within an hour of Louisville offer better rates? I am certainly not greedy, but this is a huge difference. Please respond with your experience!

I work at Frankfort Regional in Frankfort, about an hour away from Louisville. Indeed, weekend diff is only about 1.00/hr where I work.

I work at U of L Hospital- our shift diff is 12% from 3-11P and 15% from 11P-7A. No weekend diff, but if they're short and offering bonus, the weekend bonus is usually more. Our raises suck- 4% at most. I heard Jewish has a really good-paying WOW program. You might want to check it out.

The base pay mentioned is probably right, but the cost of living here is pretty low, too.

Your best bet (if you're not a brand new nurse) may be to do agency contracts at the area hospitals. That way you can feel them out, and hopefully get what you're looking for.

Thanks for the info. Still trying to decide if I am going to move or not. I may do the agency thing or the WOW thing. Have also considered going back to psych nursing. I did that for about 8 years. Have worked in HomeHealth for the last 14 years. So, lots of things to think about. I appreciate any and all input about working in Louisville. Thanks so much!!!
