Hosp experience in Long Island? new grad RN ?s NSLIJ?
I worked in NSLIJ in Glen Cove for 5 years. It is a great community hospital. They recently opened a brand new ICU/CCU/Tele unit. I don't know what your career goals are, but Glen Cove is a nice place to work, but you won't get the same experiences you would in the bigger hospitals in the system HTH

accepted to Nassau comm coll and Queensborough comm coll
hi - I graduated from NCC eight years ago - which is a long time ago, but I think a lot of the same prof. are still there. I think it is an excellent program and really prepared me for 'real' nursing when I began my first job. Good Luck!

Walden University?
I am currently attending Walden's Ed. program. It is harder then I expected. Each week you need to post in a weekly disscussion which is like writing a paper. Besides that, you are required to respond to three of your collegues, using refrences in APA style. in addition, each semster you submit 2-3application papers which are 3-5 pages, also in APA style. I don't want to discourage you, but I went in to this program thinking it would be cake, but it really is much harder then a traditional class would be.

Low Sodium? What are the dangers? What is the fix?
Clinically, patients with low sodium can become confused as well as have a ton of other issues. Treatment depends on whats going on with the patient and the cause of the hyponatremia, but MD's will usually order a fluid restriction to treat the value. If I have a patient with an abnormall lab value like that, and am not sure if the MD is aware, I would check their note for the day. If the level is there, then I document in my note that the MD is aware. If the value is not there, I call the MD and document that they were told etc. You'd be surprised, i worked with some MD's who didn't know how or didn't want to use the computer and waited until the printed lab reports were placed in the chart, which could be a day or two later! Good Luck!

How difficult is nursing school?
Nursing school is hard! If you're focused you can through it. I did all my pre-req's before I entered the program so I could focus on the nursing aspect (I could not imagine A&P AND nursing at the same time!). Good luck!

Infusaport Question
With something like that, if you're not sure, ask the oncologist or surgeon who put it in. I don't think there would be a problem with flushing it, but I could be wrong.
