Galen College not accredited? HELP

U.S.A. Kentucky

I am registered for the April courses at Galen Louisville and just got news that Galen is not accredited. I had asked this at my meeting with Galen and they said of course they are. Are there different accreditations? I am concerned because the nurse I heard this from also stated that certain hospitals will not even hire you if you are a graduate of Galen. Please help! I need to know if this is the case and if Galen does not have the accreditation required. If anyone has any thoughts or insight please let me know..thanks!

Galen is not accredited but here's the good part for those students coming along. While the VA hospital does not hire Galen students and for now they cannot do clinicals here, the VA is partnering with Galen for the use of their human simulators. As you may know, sometime in the near future (hopefully) the VA will be building a new hospital and when they do they will need new nurses. So the VA is ensuring that they keep close tabs on Galen so they can use their simulators for staff training w/o having to purchase them theirselves!

I've heard so many bad reviews about Galen College reguarding their staff, finanical aspect, and education. They said in the reviews and current students Galen admission and directors will seem like they care when you meet for a tour (the first process of entering) and leave hanging on the rest steps of the way. Your credits doesnt switch over.. So you are stuck with your lack of education and lost mainly of your money towards your education. So it is a waste of time. Those reviews were so common and barely a few good ones! That makes me nervous because Education matters!

As the above post stated, Galen is a accredited by the KBN now which is a good thing. As for the school itself I cannot vouch and it's too soon to see the product they've produced. Good luck!

Galen College of Nursing was awarded regional accreditation in the summer of 2013 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges which is a top level body that provides accreditation to many major colleges and universities in our region.

We are also accredited nationally by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.

And we are very excited that The Associate Degree program on Louisville's campus is a candidate for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN, formerly NLNAC).

While the transfer of credit is always up to the receiving school, SACSCOC accreditation should allow for more seamless transfer between many institutions.

We are proud that our graduates are employed by a long list of key healthcare providers in our state and are happy to talk about this if there are any questions. Our Career Services Cooridnator is Debra Rayman and she can be reached at 502-410-6230 if you have questions.

Also, we have a new Online RN to BSN program, launched last summer, and are proud to say that it is one of a kind in instructional design, interactivity and mobility.

We are continually looking at all aspects of our programs and processes to ensure quality and make changes when and where we need to. We hate to hear of any bad expereinces and would love the opportunity to talk if you have a specific issue or concern. If it is regarding admissions, Terri Thomas is our Director of Admissions and Dr. Steve Hyndman, our Provost, can help with any acadmic or program concerns -- they are both happy to talk about the admissions process, transfer credit or academics. They can be reached by calling the main campus line at 502-410-6200.

Thanks for the update on the accreditation status.

When will your AECN accrediting process be complete and determination made? IS it solely for the Louisville campus?

how is the job search for Galen graduates?

Galen grads are working all over the Louisville area in acute care, long term rehab and elsewhere. The recent staffing shortage has left employers scrambling for new nurses and Galen is producing graduates with excellent NCLEX scores. Their accreditation is coming soon and this will place grads in previously inaccessible areas. As with any school, instructors are not always consistent, nursing school is expensive however you look at it and your education demands that you be engaged. The tools are at Galen for those who want to succeed.

awesome thank you! I am interested in Galen College in KY due to the cost of living. I am coming from out of state and would like to know salary pay for new grad LPNs (no LPN experience but 6 years CNA experience) in this area?

Can an LPN apply at these locations?

Norton Healthcare

Baptist Hospital East

Jewish Hospital

lastly, any Galen graduates willing to PM for used books and supplies? Thank you!

There's no such thing (anymore) as "excellent NCLEX scores." You pass or you don't. Do you possibly mean that the school has a good cumulative NCLEX pass rate?

Do you by any chance work for Galen? Your post sounds like you must.

Last semester was at 98% pass rate so yes that is what I meant. And today it was confirmed that Galen is now ACEN accredited, which looks good on a resume! And I am aware of Galen in a professional capacity.

So, does that mean that you work for Galen?
