Questions about hospitals in Kansas City area and agency nursing

Anyone here work in the Kansas City area/Lawrence area (west Kansas City) and can tell me of a decent hospital to work in? What about agency nursing in that area... what agencies are utilised in this area that I could call for a job, so that I may float around a bit before settling down? When I move to KC/Lawrence, I will have one year experience in Neuroscience, but am flexible about what area I work in as long as the area is well staffed and organized (haha)

There are a dozens of hospitals in the area. There is Truman (down and dirty inner city trauma center) in KC. Across the street is Children's Mercy. There is KU med center....I could go on and on. In Lawrence there is Lawrence Memorial (a nice smaller hospital). I lived in Lawrence and commuted acout 18 miles to Topeka (Stormont-Vail and St. Francis are right across the street from each other). I don't know about any of the agencies.

So you would recommend Lawrence Memorial as a place to work? My husband will be finishing his degree at KU so any place around Lawrence is fine with me, as long as I hear that the hospital cares about it's patients and it's staff.

I am here in Topeka, I have a sister that lives in Lawrence, and I have been in Lawrence Memorial, its a very nice hospital, like they say It is a small one though, but sometimes I think they have more advantages.

After hearing all these horror stories concerning poorly staffed and dangerous working conditions, I have been a nervous nelly about moving, but I am glad to hear that there is some confidence in Lawrence Memorial. I work in a level one trauma hospital in neuroscience currently and would like to try a small hospital after this. I love to mix it up.

I live about 10 miles east of Lawrence. Beside Lawrence Memorial there is a little hospital in Atchison, then there are several in Leavenworth- Cushing, StJohn's and the VA. Then in KC, KS there is Providence. Providence I know uses lots of Agency. Premier Medical Staff and Intelistaff are the two big agencies out here. If you hit kcstar.com you can get the kc paper. LJworld.com is the local Lawrence paper, both have classified listings.

No problem! Hope you find something. Lawrence is a real college town. The whole town revolves around the school. So if your looking for a wild night life, and lots of trendy stores Lawrence is the place. But there are alot of little quiet towns near by.

I am glad this thread came up. I am moving to Kansas City in October of this year. I am looking at Research Medical Center, St Luke's Hospital or Providence Medical center. I want to be a staff nurse (not agency). Anyone know which of these hospitals I should seriously consider, which I should avoid. Although I am in critical care right now, I am hoping to do short stay , cardiac cath lab or maybe even outpatient. Someone please advise.

I think Providence has gone down hill since the other hospital in KC KS closed. Now anytime anyone gets sick they go to Providence. As a patient I think the quality of care has decreased too. Research is a teach hospital and have heard lots of good things about it. Not real familiar with StLuke's.

I would absolutely explore the possibilities at Providence Medical Center in KCK (western side of the city). I disagree that they use lots of agency - I work agency, and it's hard for me to get shifts there. I love getting assignments there, especially in their critical care units. I would give them a try. Good luck with your move and your job search! The face of healthcare in KC has really changed, with hospital mergers, closings, etc.
