Hi all - I have a friend here in Boston who is hoping to do a travel stint as an ICU RN in Australia. Any suggestions as to which hospitals she should ask for? Here the usual ICU assignment is one or two - is it the same down there? Thanks in advance!

What the hell would she want to live and/or work in Sydney for??!!!!..... It's a crazy place!! lol
Not to mention VERY VERY VERY expensive!!
Now, that said......
Initially joining an agency might be the way to go.
That way she can "suss" out the various places & then choose which one she'd like to apply for a position in.
Failing that, she'd be well advised to make contact with the NSW nurses board, and they can advise her on hospitals as well as registeration requirements.
Hope this is of some small help.
Cheers,
Grace

Rainagrey the thread at the top of this forum has a list of all the state registration boards plus many other resources. But Grace is right Sydney is very expensive and only a small part of Australia.
Here we most often only have one to two patients but our scope of practice is very different and we do more "hands on" not having respiratory technicians or other support personell.

hahhahahahha.....come on Grace and Gwenith...........:rotfl: :rotfl:
I will give you some reasons what outsiders think of sydney.
Sydney!!!!!!
The harbour Bridge .......its boooteeefooollllllll
The opera house....its funtasteticks
The beaches.........wooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww......theres no words to describe.
Shooping center .........wowowowowow
And some ppl who don't know about countries and capitals thinks sydney is Aussie's capital city........
Even though that.....I prefer Melbourne, I love it when I was there. Brisbane loves it because I can easily (cheaper) fly home.:chuckle
Jayna - just being colloquial and proud you know
"Things are great in the sunshine state"
even
"Where else but Queensland":chuckle:

Have to agree to the last post. Victoria, where we have nurse-patient ratios. But boy, can those 4 patients keep you busy! My feet are still killing me!!!

Your choices are all great just work out where you can base yourself - costs frineds etc - What you want to see whilst in the country and you could even consider some of the large regional towns - They too are often looking for highly skilled staff - Regional towns will often be a good base and the cities places to visit - less expensive.

gwenith, it is so great to read thru all the threads and see the queenslander in you!
up here it is beautiful one day, perfect the next - as we know :)
Thank-you Evie. I would love to have more Aussies posting more frequently on this board simply because I think we have a practicality that is our own. Plus it's nice to have some fellow aussies to talk to!
