hi everyone, I just passed the board exam last june 2009 and until now I haven't had any hospital experience bcoz most of them are in freeze hiring, even in volunteer nursing. i also attended lots of orientations and seminars that offers easy/fastest way in going to other countries. now, I want to try in Canada but I really don't have an idea if I'll be going there using a student visa. anyone who can help me out and give some insights... thanks in advance. :)

haoyin: thank you for understanding my point. i really appreciate it.

silverdragon 102: thank you for all the insights and information you have shared but i realize that i should look for other country as an option . my former classmate in medical school who is now based in Canada told me also that i need to have at least 2 yrs of hospital experience to be qualified/ apply as a nurse. Now, I decided to try in Australia maybe then I could find an opportunity as a new RN. Thank you and GOD BLESS US ALL.

elo there.

i know going to Canada as a nurse is hard nowadays. i have relatives in Toronto, Canada asking me to look for other ways.

I already have an eligibility to sit for the CRNE. prob is i have a hard time going to Canada. i already finished my Masters in Nursing here in the Philippines. Im thinking of going there on student visa. my relatives are going to pay for all the fees. what program should i take? or would taking a french course help? pls enlighten me. thank you so much!

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

If you come to Canada on a student visa you will not be allowed to work. As soon as the course you are taking is finished you will have to return home.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

You can work on a student visa but have to apply for a work permit if the job is off campus

Studying in Canada: Work permits for students

Although it is expected that you return home after you have completed your studying it is possible to stay but you do need to meet requirements like job offer, have a valid study visa etc

Working temporarily in Canada: Eligibility to apply

I am dubious that coming to Toronto on a student visa will result in employment opportunities for you. However, if you decide to try this student visa plan, you will not find much use for French. Maybe look into learning something relevant to nursing like the gerontolgy certificte program at Ryerson

i really want to continue a program that is related to nursing but if there is none, i would prefer anything about learning the fench language or take courses on photography.

i checked on ryerson university about "french as 2nd language"/ FRE 101 but im quite confused with when is the deadline for the application.

i also checked on the gerontological program in ryerson but they do them in distance learning. i would want to enrol on courses that are done in classrooms.

Most post degree/diploma courses are offered on line because they are aimed at working nurses.

Do you know what the criteria is for obtaining a student visa? If the course you are planning to take in Canada is available in your home country, will you qualify for a visa? Maybe check into this first, because it will save you looking at courses that do not qualify (I am thinking that photography does not qualify)

Regarding the introductory French, the website shows that the classes are not available for May or June, so check the site in July to see the Fall schedule.

Regarding the gerontological program I think, but I am not sure, that five of the courses are available through distance learning and the rest are in the classroom (there are a total of eight classes required for the certificate)

Canadian employers value Canadian education and a gerontolgy certificate may help your resume stand from the competition, if in the future, you somehow manage to immigrate to Toronto and you apply to nursing homes or other LTC facilities.

Is the post diploma nursing in ryerson university a good option for someone who has an MN degree and eligibility to take crne?

I was also wondering about the certificate in gerontology, would they allow me 2 years to finish that program?

hello! :)

i want to ask your thoughts regarding healthcare aide and practical nursing(in canada under student visa)

im a registered nurse in asia since 2009. had 2 years hospital experience.

i desire to take up practical nursing program since it has a job opportunity(most likely) but i find healthcare assistant certificate not so expensive plus it's a medical related job. but does it have a career opportunity after graduation? is it worth it?

it have no problem being a healthcare assistant(from being a nurse)

please i need your advice..thank you very much :)
