    hello ghingerz1208

the prerequesites will be a breeze. and it will be fun. you'll find that going back to school is a pleasant experience(and boy prepare yourself to see the difference between schooling in the philippines and over here). it was for me ... just keep an open mind.

supportive husband will really come in handy in nursing school. i have one myself and i thank God for him everyday. nursing school (post prerequisite) is really something. it's difficult but very interesting. now, if you had a bs back home which is not medically related (like moi) i'd say, you'll have a greater respect for nurses and the work they do. and i shall be honored to be one of them.

    take care.

Thank you glysdi! That was encouraging. I love it when people say positive things about being a nurse. Yeah, I am definitely excited now I am actually reviewing some Math online just to freshen up...it's been a while since I last attended school
    Have a nice day!

there are some schools like Samuel Merrit in Oakland, CA that offers MSN for those who have a degree in another field maybe that would make it easier for you to be a nurse.

hi same here. i'm a 2nd courser & hopefully to graduate this march of 2007. planning to take the local board by june 2007 & with God's help, if I passed the local board, take the NCLEX. BTW, how long will it took me if I'm going to take the state board of CA? Anyone of you have an idea, kasi, I've read a post here that it will take me 1 yr, coz of the #s of examinees taking the CA NCLEX? How true is this? Pls. can anyone of you reply....tnx.

Goodluck to everybody & God bless all the Filipino Nurses!!! I salut you all

    hello berk's

i was alerted in my email that someone responded to my post ... (but that was a long time ago ...) well ... how are you? i gather from your post that you are still in the philippines ... and you want to take the NCLEX in CA ... well, sorry, i have no idea about how things work in that part of the usa. i am in the state of virginia ... graduated in may 2006 and passed my NCLEX in july 2006 ... i read some posts from ms. suzanne about CA boards ... maybe you can search for her posts and find out or maybe you can send her a private email ... she really quite knowledgeable about these things and i bet she can best answer any question you may have. find one of her posts and click on her name and it will direct you on how to get in touch with through email.

hang in there ... you are almost there. and i tell you, its all going to be worth it. just remember that prayer and hard work ALWAYS pays off.

    keep me posted.

    Hi. Welcome to allnurses.com.

First of all, if you don't have plans to work in the Phil. as a RN and would like to take the NCLEX ASAP, as I am presuming that's what you want base on your post, you can actually apply to sit for the NCLEX as soon as you graduate and your school gives you your transcript of records.

You only have to give a letter explaining that you don't have any intentions to work as a RN in the country you graduated in.

CA BRN takes on an ave. 4-6 mos. for processing clearly stated in their application packet that can be viewed and downloaded on their website and another 3-4 weeks for the snail mail results (if you don't have a US SSN).

Many, go the NM and VT route as they usually give eligibility to take the NCLEX within 2-4 months and sometimes less than 2 months for NM as reported by some of our posters here. Added bonus is that they will issue you a hard license w/o a US SSN unlike in CA BRN where you only get a paper saying that you passed. However, to get petitioned you only need the paper saying that you passed.

I recommend that you go to our Int'l forum www.allnurses.com/forums/f75 for more details and it is more appropriate to discuss things like this in that forum. I also highly suggest to you to read Suzanne's "Primer" on that forum. That thread also have a collection of must-know websites for foreign-educated nurses.

Hi there! It's been a while since my last post. How's your schooling? I also started nursing school this fall and just finished my final exams. Thankfully, I survived my grueling semester If God-willing, I'm set to grad with ADN in Dec 07.

How about you? Take care and Good luck!
