Me, me, me!
I'm wrapping up my pre-nursing classes and hopefully will apply into the Nsg program next year. I finished my first BS degree back home in 1997.
Good luck to all of us!

I'm not a pinay and I didn't achieve a BS from back home. However, I will be starting an Acc. MSN program next week.
Good luck to everyone!
hiya guys..great to know people in the same situation. exciting, eh???
i'm doing my ap2 and micro this spring 2006. i already applied for the nursing program and hope to start the clinical part by fall next year. if things go smoothly, spring 2008 is graduation time for me..i wish it's faster but that's the only option i can afford to do...
any of you on a student visa, too? i'm wondering, after completing the degree, will i still need to take the cgfns or the nclex enough to be eligible for work?
Hi! I know you still need to take NCLEX like everyone else to get a license. If you're here on a student visa you may need an employer to sponsor you to be able to work after you graduate. I'm not really sure the details (I have an immigrant visa), but I'm sure someone here will be able to answer some of your questions.
Good luck!

good for you...i looked at the "international nursing in the us" forum. i found gems of info there...really valuable...
may i ask, what degree did you finish in the phils? related ba sa nursing? i have a non-nursing bs degree but thank God, the school credited at least 15 units of my previous course. had i not asked persistently (kulitin ba?), probably, i could have ended up doing over everything...if only i have the reseources, i would have chosen to take bsn instead of rn. do you think it's still possible that i can credit my previous college work along with this adn towards a bsn degree later? i have the impression that the difference of bsn with adn is the required core courses in social sciences, humanities, etc.. are there still higher nursing courses to pursue in bsn if you will take it as an rn?
thanks and happy new year, too!!!!

My degree back in PI is totally different from Nursing not even in the medical field hehe. I finished BS Hotel and Rest. Mgt. My school gave me few credits only like Math, Psych but I have to take the test for English coz schools here dont accept our English courses.
About your credits, you might wanna check the school you plan to take ur BSN. I'm not positive but I guess you gonna get extra credits coz most schools do similar kind of transcript evaluation. But the best thing is to contact the school. I think there's a little difference on nursing classes between the ADN and BSN. You can check the schoools websites and compare the curriculum.
Don't worry about your questions, I ask too much also so I understand hehe. You are also welcome to PM me
Take care and Good luck!

thanks for your reply, pinayfl. IF EVER i get the chance to pursue BSN later as a bridge from RN, i hope i won't have to take social science courses anymore. i feel they're just going to be redundant (aside from costly) with i've done in my past courses prior to this ADN. of course, i've no problems with higher nursing courses as these should be the "meat" of the knowledge base.
stay well...i'll keep in touch. =)

hi nrswnabee and pinayfl! i'm also in the same boat as you are: international student, second degree taker, and a filipina. i just graduated last december (yay for me!) and currently in the process of taking the nclex (gulp!). good luck with all your endeavors!
to nrswnabee: you don't have to take cgfns. thank god for that. i heard it's even harder than nclex. all you need is to pass nclex and to find a hospital willing to sponsor you. btw some colleges/universities are offering msn completion options if you have a bs degree in another field. the question is will they allow foreign degrees to be eligible for this option? i hope so. i'm not gonna lose sleep over this though. let me pass nclex first.

I don't have a student visa, but I don't think you need to take CGFNS since you graduated here in the US (i think it's safe to assume that you can speak/understand English), but you will need to take the NCLEX. Plus I read it'll be easier for you (student visas) to apply for employment as a RN. There is a program that the US gov't offers where you need to apply before you graduate nursing school. There won't be a lot of paperwork, either. I wish I could remember what the program is called, but I can't for the life of me. Sorry, I read it a while ago. Goodluck, though!
