Hi, I am a year away from graduating from a ASN program in California. I can pass NCLEX but will not receive the license due to lack of social security number... It's super complicated immigration stuff, but I did grow up in California since I was 11 years old.

I was wondering if it's possible to get into a new grad program in New Zealand or Australia... looking it requirements online... it seems like I HAVE to get experience... but i can't because of immigration issues... is this possible at all?

even BSN transition program in NZ requires one year of work exp...

Sorry could you please explain what a BSN/ASN is, as we must call them something different over here.

Specializes in Critical Care.

BSN is Bachelors of Science in Nursing, which is 3-4 year university degree for nursing

ASN is Associates of Science in Nursing, which is 2 year degree from a community college.

it seems that New Zealand only has Bachelors of nursing which is 3 year program.

First you need to make sure that your training meets the board of nursing requirements. If you are a ADN and BSN is required then you will not meet requirements

Best thing to do would be to would be contact the NZ nursing council http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/ and find out whether you can work as a RN (Registered nurse) or an EN (Enrolled nurse) or if they don't cross credit.

EN... enrolled nurse? what's that

Enrolled nurse would be something similar to LPN in the US however their scope and responsibility may be different.

Suggest you goggle and look at it. Not sure if EN would be applicable though for a work permit/visa for NZ
