hi guys can someone help me with my dilemma? smiley.gif

i am a registered nurse in the philippines. i graduated last march 2010 and passed the board exam last july 2010.

i am looking to immigrate to canada and from reading canada's immigration website i am qualified for the federal skilled workers program. i am qualified either to apply under the restaurant and food service managers ( i worked in the industry for 4 years while in nursing school) and under registered nurse (1 year hotel clinic experience).

i recently met a canadian national who is willing to hire me as a caregiver for his mom in toronto, ontario.

my question is do i apply as a skilled worker or as a caregiver ? what is my best option ? huh.gif

can i apply as a skilled worker and use the lmo as a caregiver ? can i do that ?

or if i apply as a skilled worker then the only lmo i can use for my application needs to be related to what skill i applied under ?

please enlighten me guys ... thank you in advance!!! grin.gif:yeah:

I would suggest you talk to a experienced immigration consultant. I am not sure if a LMO will be approved for a caregiver given the current job situation in Canada and that your employer has to advertise for a period of time across Canada and I believe the advert has to be through an approved establishment for unemployment. Also caregiver I believe would not meet skilled worker requirements as it is not on the list

Can you refer or suggest a good consulting firm ? Thank you.

@SilverDragon:

The Pass Mark for FSW is 67. If I go with the RN profession I score at 61. Scoring less than the passing mark means that I can not apply as a FSW or I am still able ? Please Enlighten me.

The Breakdown:

Education 20 -(Finished 4 year Bachelors Degree)

Language Ability 16 (English )

Work Experience 15 (1+ year of work experience)

Age 10 (21-49)

Total = 61

**Will I be able to use an LMO not related to the nursing profession. An LMO for a caregiver. Since If I can use that LMO my score will just to 76 points. Since, Arranged employment I will get 10 points, and an additional 5 points for Adaptability from the LMO.

@CarribRN

If you did not get the required 67 points as an RN under FSW, I guess that means you didn't score enough as well to apply as a restaurant and food service manager, unless you scored yourself incorrectly. I suggest you double check and assess yourself again and see if you did the right scoring. Applying as a PR under FSW is still a lot better than coming to Canada as a caregiver. You might have missed this but take note that should you decide to apply as an RN under FSW, even though you only have 1 year experience on this, you can still claim additional points for your 4-year experience as a restaurant manager thus enabling you to get the maximum allotted points for work experience.

--- Can you explain how I can claim additional points for my 4year experience as a restaurant manager ?

I can't seem to find it at the Canadian immigration website. Can you give a link ? Thank you .

:)

Check the NOC Occupational Structure. You should be able to claim points for Skills under Type 0, 1 and 2. If you want to be sure, don't just take my word for it, seek an advise from a reputable immigration consultant.

Just to tell you about my case, I only have 2-year nursing experience when I applied under FSW 3152. With this I don't have enough to meet the required 67 points. Luckily through a forum like this one specially made for Canadian immigration, I learned that an applicant can get points from all the job that falls under Skills 0, 1 and 2. In the end I was able to claim extra points from my 3-year work experience as a credit investigator (skill type 2) and got the exact 67 points.

Thank you for the link CarribRN.

question: no offense meant, i just wondered how u did nursing & resto job at the same time?

Hello I am mia and I want to hear your opinions about my problem.I am a registerd nurse here in the philippines.I graduated last March 2008 but I dont have a work experience at all. I am planning to apply in Canada. There's an agency who offered me a training for 6mos. so that I can apply as a live in caregiver in Canada. My problem is,If I go for the offer as livein caregiver,can I possibly use this experience in applying as a registered nurse in the future or should I wait for the petition of my brother which is already an RN in Canada which I dont know when would that be???Please help I really have to decide I dont want to waste time anymore

Working as a caregiver will not satisfy as working as a RN. They are two different roles. If applying under the federal skilled worker route you must have one year full time (or equivalent part time) experience.

You will only be eligible for petition by your brother if you are under 18 years old. See the information posted below which was lifted from the CIC website:

It would be much better for you to apply as a federal skilled worker, than being a caregiver. I understand that you have a job as a hotel nurse. Hold on to this job whilst processing for PR via FSW.

hi, i have a question. i have a three years hospital experience and a one year experience as a private duty nurse and i saw on the registered nurse's category that being a private duty nurse is included with their definition of being an r.n. How can i get a proof that i have been a private duty nurse for one year from my employer? i have prepared a format for my employer to approve and sign. will the canadian embassy consider this letter as a proof for my experience?

You should not be the one preparing the letter, your employer should prepare and sign the letter.

thank you for the reply dishes:) ok i will tell my employer that. hehe. but do you think the canadian embassy will consider that letter as proof of my work as a private duty nurse? since here in the Philippines most of the private duty nurses are just paid by giving the money on hand. unlike in a hospital it will be in your atm and their is proof through the pay slip that you received this amount of money.
