How do I endorse to Chicago?

I am a CGFNS certified RN moving to Chicago in next couple of weeks. I looked in Illinois licensure requirement and found that I need CES and TOEFL. Is it waived for someone who possesses a CGFNS certificate or do I still need both of those things? Anybody with experience? Tried to call the licensing board, but could not get through. Any input is appreciated. thanks.

Illinois only wants to see the CES, you will be required to complete that. They stopped accepting the CGFNS exam last year. They are two vert different things, and that you wrote the CGFNS exam, does not mean that you had a credentials eval done and that is what Illinois wants to see.

They will require the CES before they will look at your application. And be aware that they are known to be quite slow in the endorsement process, several that I know took close to 8 months or so to get their license for there. It is not going to be something instant, that is for sure.

That is definitely not something I want to hear...but truth is truth....

Check out the requirements for Indiana. Most are not immediate for endorsement. Actually very few states are.

I spoke to them. They will give me a temporary license within a week, which is good for 90 days, after I send them the application with fee and a copy of my current RN License. Hopefully, it will work out.

I am sure that you are speaking of Indiana, and not Illinois.

Hi Suzanne and Starbin, I believe IDFPR is now faster in their processing. I don't know if mine was just a remote case or what. I recently applied for Licensure by Endorsement to IDFPR. They received my application on May 11 and I was issued a license on May 30. Yes, only a couple of weeks! Of course, the completeness and accuracy of your application would matter so better check that you have all the supporting documents they require when you submit your application. I went thru CES but not anymore TOEFL, because the medium of instruction in my nursing education was English as indicated in my CES.

I've posted in another thread about this same issue, but this thread also seems to be relevant to my problem.

I have a step daughter from the Philippines who just graduated from nursing school and is looking to practice in Illinois. She needs the CES, the TOEFL (maybe) and the NCLEX. Does anyone know how long each step takes if she wants to practice in Illinois. Does she need the CES and TOEFL before she can take the NCLEX. Is she better off doing this stuff in Wisconsin (where she would be only 40 minutes from us).

She also has a six-year-old son which I know throws a whole new nugget into the mix.

She needs to do CES before she can sit NCLEX. If she is looking at coming over with tourist visa and then change her status she will not be able to do it at the moment as currently no visas. Much better to start the process now and do consular processing. No problems with bringing son with CP she just needs to add him on when NVC requests DS230. CES can take anything from 3 months as a lot depends on how quickly they (CGFNS)recieves her documents. Advise her to use FEDEX or UPS or other big currier as CGFNS appears to open that mail a lot quicker than when sending ordinary mail, her school has to send her transcripts but no reason why FEDEX isn't used

I received e-mail from Illinois BON. The sender wrote- "If you hold CGFNS Certificate we accept that. No need for CES and TOEFL".
