Hi All,

My name is Deepika. I am a healthcare professional from India.

I completed my B.Sc Nursing in 2010 and since then working in Cardiology Dept of a reputed hospital.

I want to pursue my career in United States. Trying to get some information on available options and process I need to follow.

I know from friends that I will need to take an English exam, not sure if an a Nursing exam is also required.

I want to go for M.S Nursing or MBA Nursing.

Could anyone please help me with the exams I will need to take, the procedure to follow and refer me to some good universities.

There is no such degree as MBA in nursing. You will need a US nursing license to practice nursing and most graduate nursing programs require an unrestricted nursing license. NCLEX must be passed as one step in the licensing process. Do you have work rights and a USSSN? If not, will limit which states you can apply for a nursing license

Moved to the International Nursing forum as nothing to do with actual nurse registration

If looking at higher level you may find it hard as a student as a) it will be expensive and must show funds up front and b) a lot of the courses I have seen advertised are part time or distant learning

Why would someone need a US nursing license to go to school here?

Every US graduate nursing program I'm aware of requires an active license to practice nursing in the state in which the school is located (or the state in which you're studying, in the case of distance education) to be eligible. Even most BSN completion programs (for ADN or diploma graduates) won't accept you without an RN license. These programs all involve some kind of clinical experience, and you have to have a nursing license in order to complete the clinical requirements (there may be other reasons, as well. For whatever reasons, and whether those reasons are valid or not, the schools require active licensure). A student from abroad would need a student visa and an appropriate nursing license.

I can understand that, Make sense, Appropriate license is the gray area and I guess the schools have that worked out with the state Nursing boards.

Why would the previous poster claim you need - Social Security Number and Work Right, I am thinking once you enter USA on a student visa then you could obtain that.

Once in the US the student has to apply for permission to work and only once that has been given can they apply for a US SSN. There is no guarantee that work authorisation will be given and I believe the schools have to be a SEVP-certified approved plus the first year is restricted if approved
