Canadian Nurses in Hawaii

I'm a Canadian nurse working in Calgary and looking to relocate to Hawaii in the next few months. The paperwork is done; just waiting to write the NCLEX. Anyone out there worked in Hawaii? I would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks for your time.

Have you submitted your application for the Visa Screen Certificate? Do not wait until after you take NCLEX to do this, or you will be adding on extra waiting time.

Thanks Suzanne. I have already applied for my VisaScreen certificate, along with the NCLEX application and state licensure.

Specializes in Emergency.

I can hear it how "Aloha aye".

Good luck, its going to be some culture and climate shock for sure. If your actually moving there the advice I heard when there on vacation is don't pack alot of clothing, most will be too warm anyway. The life style there is pretty laid back so most of what one will wear outside of work can be obtained there, the flea market is a reportedly cheap place to look.

I've never been there, but have heard that you don't go there to make money because the cost of living takes it all. Have heard good and bad about the facilities.

You might want to ask this question on the Delphi TNT forum. I know there have been travelers there.

Hi! I am a RPN from Ontario, and I am currently studying for my PN NCLEX exam and hope to relocate to Hawaii for employment. Are there opportunities for RPN's in Hawaii, and how was your experience? Thank you!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

This is a very old thread and no telling if the original poster still comes to AN

Was over there a couple of months ago on vacation.

The local news stations and papers were constantly on about the state of the economy and various cutbacks. Cost of living was high.

I doubt they'll be hiring outsiders when there are locally produced nurses.
