Canadian master's programs

  1. Where did you do your master's? I'm starting to think about doing mine and I would love to know where you went and why you liked/disliked it.
Also, has anyone out there done a joint NP/Master's program?

There are several Masters/NP programs in Canada. U of Toronto for one. As of next year all of the NP programs in Ontario will be a Masters. Also the NP programs in BC are all at a Masters level.
    Hope this helps

np programs in canada have few np faculty .... the majority of the faculty who teach in the np programs
    are not nps.

in the us, the majority of np program faculty are nps, usually clinically active nps.

Dalhousie university (in Nova Scotia) has a Masters in Nurse Practitioner option. I haven't heard much about it though. I only looked at it because I'd love to live in Halifax
I believe you can do a Masters in Nurse Practitioner through Athabasca as well.

U of A has a programme, I work with several NPs who went there and several RNs who are enrolled in the programme. They all speak well of it.

The CASN has a pdf outlining which schools offer what programs, you can access it here http://www.casn.ca/media.php?mid=200 I was looking at it because I am planning to start on mine as well, and I want to research which schools offer distance options since I am in PEI. I have an interest in Mental Health nursing, I've been working in psych since I graduated 2 years ago, and I'd like to continue in this specialty in a Master's program. Does anyone know if certain schools offer a better psych oriented program than others? Thanks for any advice you may offer!

Actually in Ontario there have been NP's since the 70's, the program died out in the early 80's only to be revived again in the early 90's. I know that most faculty in Ontario are in fact NP's and some have been NP's for many years. Other provinces have less history with NP's so may have less faculty that are NP's.
