All nursing school placements/clinicals/practicuums are UNPAID.

No longer true.
In BC, BCIT students now get paid in their final 3 placements (numbers 5 to 7).
UBC is in the final stages of negotiating a deal with the provincial health authority so students will be paid in ALL practicums.
I am not sure about the other schools in BC so it would be best to check each school individually.

I guess the economy is much better is BC than Ontario. All we have here is the new grad program which gives new nurses 7 months of paid full time work right after graduation.
The only thing I have heard of in Ontario is nursing students getting summer jobs in some hospitals but even that has kind of dried up in many hospitals lately.
Hello linzz,
Well the western economies have generally been doing much better than our eastern neighbours for many years now,
but on the bright side...you have 7 months GUARANTEED employment! That is teriffic, especially right out of school.
Besides, just to put it in perspective, we are being treated like "co-op students" (a common practice in fields such as business and engineering...and in my opinion LONG overdue in health sciences) so the pay won't even come close to what you are being offered in Ontario.
I am glad to hear that the western economy is better than Ontario and farther east. It gives me some hope, if I can ever convince my spouse to leave Ontario.
Good luck to you guys in BC.
