@mjcanada, thanks for ur reply. :heartbeat:redpinkhe

hi mjcanada,Could you further explain the challenge exams..

What subjects are not included in the Phil nursing curriculum that are needed to be taken at the Norquest College in order to take the challenge exams in Canada?

How much will it cost for a Filipino RN to take the challenge exams? How much is the tuititon fee at Norquest College in Edmonton?

Hoping for a reply

Thanks

Just contact Norquest for accurate information.

Fees change, courses change.

Currently if you are an international student, on a study visa, or a work permit, the challenge exam fee is 1620 Can. You must orderr original transcripts of marks as well as course outlines from your univerisity to be sent directly to the office of the registrar at NorQuest College. When your documents are assessed you will be sent a program planner indicating the courses for which you will receive advance credit and those you will be permitted to challenge. You must complete skills courses at NorQuest and a 7 week practicum in Alberta. You should go online to www.norquest.ca to find out more information or to apply to the Practical Nurse Refresher Program for IENs. You must also provide a language test: IELTS all scores 6.5 or a CELBAN or CLB.

Specializes in NICU.

Hi all,

Can anyone out there please help me with some study material for the CELBAN? l desperately need some study materials. Many thanks fellow colleagues.

The CELBAN offers clinical scenarios to which you repond. You may read a case scenario and tghen b e asked questions about it. You must remember things like the name, the gender, the disease, vital signs and other assesment details, to explain what you heard or read in the case scenario. It tests language but also memory! The cleint was an aboriginal women aged 58. She was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2009 and takes pills to help control her diabetes. She weighs 80 kg and her BP was 180/98. She said that she does not feel weel and is sometimes dizzy. She appeared flusged and a little agitated. etc etc.

You should practice your client introduction, gaining trust, therapeutic communication, assessmet skills while interviewing or talking wih your client. You arE not being assessed for your nursing skills, rather your ability to read /hear information as it relates to the client and your language skills and attention to detail.

This is what students have told me about the CELBAN.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

There are no study materials for this type of exam. Either you're proficient enough in English or you're not. You can't study for this, you can only practice. CELBAN offers a free self-assessment tool on their website that will tell you how likely you are to pass. Did you look at their website?

I am consider as international student since i dont have PR just working visa At the moment . I'm willing to risk financially just to start the course. i need help so badly.

im interested to take Lpn as refresher course at Norquest college. Im in the process of completing the requirements for admission and nearly done. I'm looking for someone to help me understand how the part time distance practical nurse refresher is. Im here at fortmcmurray and hoping to get some answers

thank you so much ..

hello karrielove2004,

I guess we're on the same boat here. I am also interested in the PN refresher course for IENs in NorQuest college. I contacted them through email recently and asked about the registration process and fees. They told me that they cannot give me an exact tuition fee for my course because it will all depend on the result of my initial assessment and challenge exams. Would you know if the Challenge exams are already included in the application fee (CAD100)?

I am still here in the Philippines so I am very curious what the steps would be. The one who answered my email told me that I can avail of the Distance learning, so I am really confused if I can start my program here in the Philippines or if I have to go there in Alberta before my program starts. I prefer the on-campus type of learning because I think it will be more educational for me.

I hope you can share your experience there regarding your application. It will really help me a lot. Thanks!

The app fee only covers the assessment of you original nursing transcripts, which must be sent directly from you college to the office of the registrar at NorQuest College. Therer is a separate fee for he challenge exams - if you are a landed immigrant or rresident roughly $1000 If you are on a study visa or a working visa, then all fees are international rate which is 2.4 times the basic rate. so approximately $2400 for the LPNC1000 which are the challenge exams. You must be in Canada to register in the LPNC1000 exams. You must also have the appropriate immigration documents to come to Canada - so this should be your first priority, getting immigraion clearance. You can apply and have your language test and transcrtipts sent over for assessment, but you have to be in Canada to write the tests for the challenge.

Thanks mjcanada! that was really helpful. I just want to clarify the LPNC1000 fee for international students on working/student visas, is it 1620cad (like in your earlier post) or 2400cad?

I am really interested with the program, and I think Canada is a good place for aspiring LPNs like me who will go there independently.

Did you have your PN refresher course at NorQuest? how was it? Was the school environment good?

Also, I am well aware that even if i pass the CPNRE, landing a job as RPN there is very slim. But aside from healthcare jobs, are there any alternative jobs that I can apply to while waiting for my luck to have a RPN job?

I am sorry if I have a lot of questions. It's just that I want to know as much about the place I am planning to move in to. I really appreciate if you could give me some insights about this one. =)
