anyone get denied for visascreen?

hello everyone and thanks for reading this thread...

first of all, my colleague graduated with a BSN degree from a recognized university and recently passed her NCLEX...she went through the visa screen process and got DENIED! Apparently, she was told that her 4 year nursing education could not fulfill the required number of clinical hours needed in certain areas of nursing. WHAT BS!!! she was also told to "somehow" take the courses she needed to fulfill the required clinical hours in order for her visa screen to get approved....i talked to a nursing agency today because i will be writing my NCLEX and will apply for my visascreen in the new year, and i was told that this has happened to several people in ontario as well.....

can it get any more frustrating when we constantly hear a "NURSING SHORTAGE"?? the visa screen process is just another way to milk our money and to make it difficult for us to work in the states :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

has anyone, or does anyone know of someone who has their visascreen denied for the same reasons?? I would love to get this discussion going because i think it is such a waste slaving through all this NCLEX preparation and all the expensive fees, only to find out that you are not even qualified to go after 4 grueling years to get your BSN degree!!! and by the way, I also graduated from the same University as my friend, but attended a different college under the same collaborative nursing program......

As I keep stating, CGFNS considers each application on its own merit and will not make a blanket answer. You will save yourself a lot of time and grief by just submitting the docxuments to them. Either way, you still need to go thru them, whether just for the Visa Screen or for a credentials verification also.

Hi Suzanne,

I was responding to 2ndCareerRN "the requirements for a visa are not secret" etc etc........

Perhaps I didn't explain myself very well. I was confirming what you have said all along - that CGFNS will not make a blanket answer. I wanted to support what luilui 604 was saying in the OP and to empathize with his/her feelings.

2ndCareerRN suggests that applicants should know how many clinical hours will be required in each discipline, but as you say, each application is reviewed on its own merit, so how can anyone know what might be approved or denied?

In answer to 2ndCareerRN - even with all our 'ducks in a row' it is impossible to know if an application will be approved or denied on the clinical hours, therefore it could be said that, yes, there is a certain amount of secrecy for the requirements of a visa. All the online research in the world will give no guarantee for a successful application.

So as you say Suzanne, we have grin and bear the fact that we might as well save ourselves a lot of time and grief, submit our documents to them and hope for the best!:o

A big part of whether the nurse gets accepted or rejected is based on how theirr nursing school divides up the hours. So this is always something to look into. Also, a big problem does exist with nurses ffrom the UK and Australia who now have their training done as a specialist and not a generalist. The US, as well as Canada, require a generalist format. That is the reason that many have to make up hours before being accepted.

thanks for the empathy and support :)

even all the nursing students that graduated with me from the same program have varying degree of hours in different areas of clinical nursing. for example, we could decide to take community health nursing or psyc nursing in term 5....i chose to do CHN, therefore i do not have any hours in psyc at all :uhoh21: ....i wonder if CGFNS will consider this fact and deny me for the visa screen?? :crying2: if however, i get hired on a psyc unit as an RN (now that i'm finished school), will working hours be accredited to clinical hours missing in psyc???

you're right, all i can do at this point is to pay the big bucks :angryfire and just hope for the best!

luilui 604, I am almost certain that working hours will not be accredited to clinical hours missing for CGFNS purposes. The psyc/maternity/obgyn/community hours etc have to be be on your training transcript from your school. I did as you did, chose community over psyc and I won't be surprised if my application is denied because of this. If so, I will have try to rectify this by doing some further study/training :angryfire

I have paid the $$$'s and living in hope :o

Don't despair, these things are sent to try us & if you persevere you will get there in the end! Good luck:)

Sorry, but CGFNS stipulates that the hours must be in an approved school of nursing. The nursing school is responsible for filling in the hours, not the job where you are working.

This is why CGFNS will not make a blanket ruling, each student is different many times, even when they are in the same program.

Good luck to you...............
