Truman Nursing Application Extension

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Does anyone have any scoop on why Truman College suddenly, little more than a week before the application deadline, extended it for another month? On their Website there is an announcement that the deadline has been extended until March 1. However, they provide no explanation as to why (or how it will affect the decision process and timeline). I highly doubt they don't have enough applicants unless they are rethinking their entrance guidelines, which wouldn't surprise me, but would also be somewhat shady this late in the game. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything going on, or if it's just a ploy to get a bigger pool of applicants.

excuse my previous venting post. i just spoke with a very nice woman at truman who said, you would be able to claim your seat at whichever school you've been accepted to. that is, if you apply to all three and are accepted to all three you have a certain amount of time to claim the seat of your preference. acceptance emails do, indeed go out on may 2nd. this is news that is clear and makes sense. now i can relax. lol

i spoke with dr. debra gurney a week and a half ago. she told me they can put you in whatever school they wish. she said if you only applied to one school, this would be taken into consideration, but if you weren't in the top level there, they could send you elsewhere. we discussed the gpa requirements at length and i told her i had already taken micro, bio 226, etc, but she said it didn't matter at all, because they needed to "level the playing field for everyone" and it said right there, when i applied, that the prerequisites were chem, bio, and math. she did say that perhaps they would at some point look at other "general education" classes. when i asked what she meant by this, she said "general education classes," not co-requisites like bio 226, 227, micro, etc.

don't think that by speaking to the truman secretary you have the most accurate info. it hasn't worked out that way in the past--like truman saying this year they would review applications, and next year it would go to the ccc office....and i could name many other instances, too. take everything with a huge grain of salt!!!!!

we will be competing with students who have only finished 3 classes. instead of competing against 550 other students at truman (who have all completed most of the classes by then), we will be competing with over 2,000 students from all colleges.

dr. gurney said ccc has the right to change the rules whenever and however they want -- it is written right there. she didn't agree that it is unfair that truman gave us hoops to jump through, we jumped through them and continued taking more classes then the prereqs and now it is unfair that they are changing the whole system. she said sometimes that happens, and that's just life. basically, she said "deal with it".

she wasn't sure how they were going to deal with the different schools/different locations issue, but she did say that one school is just like another. they are all ccc schools and will all be considered to be equal.

i would have changed my strategy if i knew any of this. why bother taking all the classes before applying? i did try, i truly did!!!!!

Yah, the schools are not AT ALL the same! Seriously, there is a even a BIG difference in the location that they are all in! What a HUGE f'd up mess! Well, I'm really interested in seeing what the outcome is! :barf02:

Do you think they realize that Chicago is actually quite a large city? Daley isn't exactly fifteen minutes from Truman. That part of the argument is the most incomprehensible, no?

I don't think they are looking at it that way... honestly..if you go back and look at my post from yesterday I think where I explained how I heard they were going to split everyone up...that's what I think they just might do....honestly..it would make it the easiest way to do it.. in their mind.. split everyone up in different piles according to where they live..then figure out the top people in each pile and that's who gets accepted. Kwim? I didn't apply to truman because I've never taken Chemistry before..so I'm taking it now.. but honestly..with all the changes they're doing.. and who knows what type of changes they'll do while you're in the program.. I'm glad I didn't apply!!! Seriously, I'm too old for the bullsh*t!!! :lol2:

"don't think that by speaking to the truman secretary you have the most accurate info. it hasn't worked out that way in the past--like truman saying this year they would review applications, and next year it would go to the ccc office....and i could name many other instances, too. take everything with a huge grain of salt!!!!!"

you are right. it simply felt good to hear a straight forward answer. i'm okay with that, whether she is the secretary or the director of the truman program. i am not jaded yet. probably because this is my first time applying.

"dr. gurney said ccc has the right to change the rules whenever and however they want -- it is written right there. she didn't agree that it is unfair that truman gave us hoops to jump through, we jumped through them and continued taking more classes then the prereqs and now it is unfair that they are changing the whole system. she said sometimes that happens, and that's just life. basically, she said "deal with it"."

that's great advice when you're trying to pacify someone into thinking they have no voice. so, don't believe the hype. sure they can change the rules of the game at their leisure, but that does not mean we have to agree with them. not everyone is using financial aid to attend ccc (nothing against those who are). over the last year and a half, every dollar they have taken, has been a dollar of my hard earned cash. i'm far from asking for a free ride, but don't feed me lines. ccc has rights, but so do we as students/consumers. treat me like the "best of the best" applicant you claim to be looking for. they want us to have our sh* together. so they need to do the same. she gave that "intimidating" answer because as i mentioned before, she unfortunately had nothing else to give.

"she wasn't sure how they were going to deal with the different schools/different locations issue, but she did say that one school is just like another. they are all ccc schools and will all be considered to be equal."

she just got into that position, so she can consider all day. i only sympathize with the fact that dr. gurney has to deal with all the crap chancellor hyman placed in her lap.

"i would have changed my strategy if i knew any of this. why bother taking all the classes before applying? i did try, i truly did!!!!!"

no regrets at this point. if i don't get in this year, i won't be reapplying. i don't have anymore time or energy to waste. i'm struggling a bit now. but this is pretty much the last of it.

Seriously, I'm too old for the bullsh*t!!! :lol2:

lol...I'm right there with ya, SMOKEY!! :yeah:

:banghead::banghead:

Well, to everyone who reads these, swaying from one emotion to another as I have been the last few weeks, I now retract anything and everything I said previously. It appears that the "powers to be" have changed their minds yet again. So, who knows what they are considering for admission, and who knows how they will consider it. I wish I knew, but I have now gotten conflicting info from absolutely everyone. I know you aren't jaded, chicagonurse2b, but this is my second year doing this. I will wait to see whether I got in or not, and then I will move on if it wasn't meant to be. I was pretty much 100% sure I was going to have a spot. I am paying my own way, too, and I am not 20. I only wanted Truman. I do not want a non-accredited program because I am going to move on to a Master's, and I did not want to travel more than an hour each way to get there and back because I have a family. As has been said before, they have over 2,000 applicants for 800 spaces. They don't need ours. And we have no voice, we really don't. Do you see them notifying us that we won't be receiving an answer "on or before April 1st?

lol...I'm right there with ya, SMOKEY!! :yeah:

Seriously!! That's why I applied to so many schools.. I have a plan to move the hell outta here Summer of 2013 and I want to make sure it happens.. even if I have to go to a private school! Plus I'm so sick of Chicago these days.. and even more..Cook County! Don't even get me started on Cook County! :lol2: I'm going to be 41 in 11 days.. no more time for the bs!:D

I sometimes wish I could leave, too. What school have you applied to, Smokey?

wow so the selection is based on 3 classes only?? thats going to be tough. Will they consider COMPASS score also??

GPA + COMPASS ?

how did everyone do on COMPASS test?

I have a plan to move the hell outta here Summer of 2013 and I want to make sure it happens..:lol2: I'm going to be 41 in 11 days.. no more time for the bs!:D

Now, that's where my head is focused! I have the same idea in mind. I held off on the idea of settling into my own home, here. Just incase I decide with family to ship it out of Chicago! To move on as an RN would be that much more sweet!

April baby.:jester: My boyfriend turns 36 tomorrow(:heartbeat). Happy (early) B-day, Smokey! Enjoy!
