Does anyone have any scoop on why Truman College suddenly, little more than a week before the application deadline, extended it for another month? On their Website there is an announcement that the deadline has been extended until March 1. However, they provide no explanation as to why (or how it will affect the decision process and timeline). I highly doubt they don't have enough applicants unless they are rethinking their entrance guidelines, which wouldn't surprise me, but would also be somewhat shady this late in the game. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything going on, or if it's just a ploy to get a bigger pool of applicants.

i am not sure about the deadline extension but i have been hearing rumors that all the applications are going to be sent to district. There are so many things CCC is trying to change.

WOW..I'm suprised that they actually extended it! I think maybe Handwinting is right...it could be because district is going to be sent all of the applications for all of the city colleges for the nursing programs.. they will make the decisions on who gets in etc.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago on this website.
I called the nursing office, and I was told that this year, the faculty at Truman will be dealing with the applications themselves (next year, probably CCC central office). I asked about the extension, and she said she didn't know why it was extended (could be they didn't want to share the reason). Truman doesn't share much.
Last year the faculty dealt with the applications, they were weeks late to notify people (and you couldn't get hold of them), and the faculty changed the rules for getting in from what they had stated on their website and in their application documents (tiebreaker points were added on to ranking points instead as being used for tie-breakers--they thought it was more "fair"). Since you can't have your Spring 2011 class count for credit (you wouldn't have a final grade by March 1), and the midterm grade doesn't count, I don't get it. How does it widen the pool, unless there is something I don't understand?? The only people, as far as I see, who benefit are those who couldn't get their documents together in time for whatever reason.
Truman can change its procedures at any time (even one week before the application deadline). It is written in small print somewhere. Like changing the rules for an exam after half the people have finished taking it.
At the information sessions, they said that ALL applications had to be sent to district so they were not going to be involved in the process at all. Makes me wonder what the real truth is!
Thanks for the responses. Guess it's just wait and see... I thought maybe it had something to do with the new director of nursing they hired, but since her position is district-wide, it doesn't make sense to only extend Truman's deadline and not Daley's. (And from what I can tell, Daley's doesn't seem to have been extended). I do see on Truman's website that they "updated" some of the nursing school forms in Jan 2011, but the only thing I can really see that is different is that they made it mandatory to get a B or higher in Bio 121 (their old forms allowed points to be assigned for a C in this course). They've changed this on one form but not another. They also added tie-breaker points for GPA, which wasn't on their website forms previously, but was on one of the handouts they provided at the information sessions). Like Baila said, there's really nothing that makes sense about extending the deadline, especially if they aren't actively promoting it. They added the extension deadline to their online forms, but they did not change the April 1 notification date, so it doesn't seem to benefit anyone other than procrastinators. I think I'm going to go to their newly added information session next week and see if they are willing to share anything new.
That is some changes.. there weren't any tie breaker points for GPA when I was at their info session.. so what about the people who handed in their application before the changes and like they have a C is bio 121..what then? Curious how it's all gonna turn out... I'm kinda glad I'm not applying ..LOL

I am currently enrolled in the CNA program at Wright college and the instructor at wright said that Truman College is on probation!!!!.
I dont know if it has something to do to last semester(Fall 2010), I was accepted to their nursing program, but I had to withdraw do to me working too many hours in my job. The withdraw date was extended in hope for more students pass the semester, when I was filling out the withdraw papers in the nursing office, I was listening to some instructors worried about having almost 50% of 2nd year students falling!!!! and they were saying that was a bad year for them!!. so when my CNA at Wright college said that to the class I was not shocked by that, but I will see if she tells me the reason for the probation:o
What did she mean when she said they are on "probation"? As far as I know, probation is only for schools who fare poorly on the NCLEX, and Truman doesn't. Having so many students fail the 2nd year of nursing school is a separate issue and wouldn't make a difference for their accreditation! Of course, it isn't a good reflection on the instructors if so many people are failing...
I would assume that they could be on probation for something else according to whatever the rules are by the BON no?? Maybe they aren't on NCLEX probation but something else that has to do with the program itself??

"On Probation" generally means the NCLEX passing rate of the institution has fallen below 75% for two consecutive years.
For example:
Year 1: School-A clears 30 of its students to take the NCLEX exam and only 22 of the 30 students pass (73%)
Year 2: School-A clears 40 of its students to take the NCLEX exam and only 29 of 40 pass (72.5%)
With the above scores, the IL Board of Nursing (BON) will have to put School-A "On Probation" for not meeting the minimum pass rate of 75% for two consecutive years. For more info, feel free to visit the IL Center for Nursing. :)
Did anyone attend a recent orientation meeting? Was there anything said to indicate what is happening at Truman this year? Just wondering....
