Truman Nursing Application Extension

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Does anyone have any scoop on why Truman College suddenly, little more than a week before the application deadline, extended it for another month? On their Website there is an announcement that the deadline has been extended until March 1. However, they provide no explanation as to why (or how it will affect the decision process and timeline). I highly doubt they don't have enough applicants unless they are rethinking their entrance guidelines, which wouldn't surprise me, but would also be somewhat shady this late in the game. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything going on, or if it's just a ploy to get a bigger pool of applicants.

I just got my email at 9:20 pm and I got in. I think the emails are just going out a bit slow. Dr Gurney seems to be contacting people individually... that's a lot of emails to send. If you have not heard yet, don't despair, your acceptance may be on it's way.

... and Scigeek, the way they are talking, they are trying to make ALL programs the same. Whether you are placed at Daley, Truman, or Wright is not a decided by your GPA, it's decided by your zip code. Congrats to all who've made it. If you haven't heard, hang in there, it's not over yet!

it IS decided by your GPA and NOT location. i live in south loop and i got into truman. so are my friends who live in the south side. Even Dr. gurney told me that its based on GPA

Well, I got into Truman, but I'm only a few blocks away. I heard from more than one source (including Dr Gurney) that the reason behind all the changes being made is to make all CCC programs ONE program with six different locations. Equal in all but location. A noble goal in my opinion.

I always thought all this "Truman is the ONLY place to go" was a bunch of hoo-ee. What kind of nurse you become, what kind of anything you become, depends on YOU, not where you go.

it sounds good in theory but in reality not all City college programs are the same period.

i guess you have never been to Malcomx or Daley college. Its very ghetto and doesnt look/feel like college.

I've been to both, the main difference I've seen is the bathrooms at Truman smell worse, and I didn't see as many drug deals going on as I've seen DIRECTLY across the street from Truman. My first day of class, two people were shot at the bus stop at Wilson and Broadway, the first of five shootings I've been able to see just by walking out the schools front door.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Truman, my experience there has been, and continues to be great. I think it's a great school in a troubled neighborhood. But Daley, MX, and the rest are almost exactly the same. I think the whole idea of the changes being made at CCC is to end this air of elitism, put all schools and programs on a level field. Once again, a noble goal in my opinion.

To all my future colleagues who will be staring their training at MX, Daley, Wright, wherever.

CONGRATS!! I hope we get to work together someday!

Hanwinting...I am glad to hear you got into Truman, but I think that's a really terrible attitude to have. I had an undergrad gpa of 3.6 and have gotten mostly A's on my prereqs, except for micro (B) and stats (B). I got a 98 on the compass test. So no, I'm not sure that my being routed to "the ghetto school that doesn't look/feel like a college" had everything to do with the apparently crappy academic performance I've put forth. If you want to be the kind of nurse that only wants to deal with pretty facilities in great neighborhoods filled with "non ghetto" people, well, then you won't be the same kind of nurse that I want to be, and that's totally ok...But I probably wouldn't feel the need to tout my sense of superiority all over the internet. Uncool dude. Just uncool.

lol...I thought it was just me. Thank you. :yeah:

Hey Sci Geek,

I kind of wanted to say the same thing about Hanwintings post, but didn't have the guts you have. We're entering a field where I feel a sense of solidarity is necessary, and there is no room for elitism. If we're working together some day, I do not care a whit where you went to school, I care how you react when the chips are down. This whole "Trumans the only place to go" is finally being put in it's place. I'd happily go to MX, Wright, or any place else, if I wasn't so close to Truman, which is the main reason I think they placed me there. You'll make a great nurse, I hope we get to work together someday.

I still have not heard a word > Does that mean Iam out ? Any Ideas thoughts ? thanks .
