Hi there. I am a student in the program currently and enjoy it. It's hard, and the teachers don't walk you through it, by any means, but if you put in the time and effort to study and ask questions, you'll be fine. A lot of people complain, but I don't think its that bad. You are getting a whole lot, for not a lot of money, and sometimes that means putting a little extra work in to find appropriate resources. That being said, I encourage you to apply. I don't believe they do a "wait list" anymore. It's a point system. You apply to the district now, I think, along with your preferences for which program you'd prefer and if accepted, they assign you to one. Truman is an excellent program, too, I hear, but I try not to compare what we're doing to what they're doing because the programs are run VERY differently. Good luck!

Just about any program is going to have a waitlist or a very competitive points process. For most of the community colleges, you also have to live in the district because demand is so high they are only considering in district for nursing. As for accreditation you can look at the nlnac website. I am certain they accredite most of the ADN programs. Another accredites the BSN and beyond programs (I forget...it starts with a C). Not sure what kind of prereqs you have, but odds are you're going to have to wait a little while to start since most of the schools make you apply almost a year out. Good luck!

In my 8am class this morning, a classmate who was compulsively checking her phone gave me an excited smile and a thumbs up at about 9:15...so don't give up! They're apparently still sending them out. :)

Jess, are you starting the program at 2nd year since you're in an LPN program now? Also, I'm very curious what your experience was there. I have friends in that neighborhood who went there (years ago, though) and said it was a pretty decent school. It seems they have cranked out some decent people who have continued on to really great programs at excellent schools, although I don't know anyone who has gone there for nursing.

Thanks for the info! Wow...so 600 students were placed in two schools? I hope this doesn't negatively effect the programs, since these schools were only staffed/equipped to handle under 100 new ones at Daley and 200 new ones at Truman. Even if the schools manage to handle it, that's a ton of extra students to toss at the hospitals where we'll do our clinical sites, too! Ughfff, I wish I had more info before making this decision. And sheez, I wonder what the gpa cutoff was at Truman...by the sounds of it, it was pretty high! Anyway, I guess I'll email and confirm my seat...I'd just hate to take someone else's seat if it turns out the program isn't what I want. I wish there was a little more communication on their part about these "new" programs. *Sigh* Either way, it's exciting to have the option of going! I quit my full time job a year ago to go back to school so it's a relief to have the possibility of an end-point in sight finally (well, technically, just a start)! :yeah:I guess I'll email Dr. Gurney now and confirm.

Oh really? That's interesting. If we have class together, we'll have to carpool every now and again...these $5 gas prices and long commute are going to kill! Lol. Anyway, I have not emailed her back yet. I would like some more info first.

Hey Kam, You can check the accreditation status of any school directly through the accrediting body's website. NLNAC accredites most associate degree nursing programs: http://www.nlnac.org/forms/directorySearch.asp It appears both Daley and Truman are safe through 2016/2017, although it does note that they are both "with conditions". I'm not sure what that means.

I think I read on another thread that she is out for the day. Probably the sheer exhaustion of dealing with all 2500 of us little stalkers for months on end. I also saw like 2 others on that same thread (think it's titled something like "accepted to a CCC nursing program?") that are in a similar situation- applied to Truman but got acceptance letters from Daley. I wonder if anyone that actually applied to Daley got in?? Anyway, looking forward to getting more info about the program. I think the changes Chancellor is making are beneficial but I'm a little nervous about being the lab rat!!

Hey Vladak, I am in your same situation. Odd, but whatever! Whereabout do you live, if you don't mind my asking? I live in Ukranian Village. Took a "test drive" to Daley today- It is farrrr. Thankfully, I drive (and I guess we won't hit much traffic at 6am when we start clinicals! Eeek.) Nice to finally see some Daley folks represented on here. I've heard Daley had only 80 spots...I'm curious where the 700 other seats are going?? (Unless the secretary was wrong) I'm also curious what they are doing about the MXC program, as it has lost its accreditation. Anyone get an acceptance into MXC?

I Deevine! I'm in your exact same boat! I applied to Truman and got an acceptance letter into Daley. I also knew nothing about the program. I went to Daley's nursing office today to try to get some...and they don't know much right now either. Apparently, district is taking complete control of the programs this year so they are all "unified". I was told to contact Dr. Gurney, or just wait it out. Supposedly every program now will be the "same", although not sure at the moment what that means...if I get any more info, I'll be sure to update!

Hanwinting...I am glad to hear you got into Truman, but I think that's a really terrible attitude to have. I had an undergrad gpa of 3.6 and have gotten mostly A's on my prereqs, except for micro (B) and stats (B). I got a 98 on the compass test. So no, I'm not sure that my being routed to "the ghetto school that doesn't look/feel like a college" had everything to do with the apparently crappy academic performance I've put forth. If you want to be the kind of nurse that only wants to deal with pretty facilities in great neighborhoods filled with "non ghetto" people, well, then you won't be the same kind of nurse that I want to be, and that's totally ok...But I probably wouldn't feel the need to tout my sense of superiority all over the internet. Uncool dude. Just uncool.

Congrats, Desiree! That is amazing. :) I was bummed to not get into Truman but so thankful my app was handed off to Daley. Anyone else get into Daley?? As for those still waiting, don't lose hope! There are plenty of people wait-listed to get in later. And even if this isn't your year, there is a TON you can do in the meantime to strengthen yourself for next year, and it will only make you a better nurse in the long run. Keep your heads up!!

It was an email from Dr. Gurney (appropriate, seeing as how she caught my wrath via telephone a few times...teehee). They said a formal letter will be sent to my home. You must confirm via email by next Monday. Also, it was sent to my gmail account. I thought it would go to my ccc email address, as I don't remember supplying them with my personal account, but it was a while ago.
