IL Licensing Questions New Nurse Transfer from MO

U.S.A. Illinois

I have seen a couple of threads kind of related to my issue, but not quite. I wasn't sure if I responded to one of the older threads if it would pop up, so here goes:

I am graduating on May 19 with an ADN from a community college here in Missouri. I want to move to Quincy, IL and work as that is where my fiancee is. My school has already submitted the applications to the Missouri Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX in MO and be licenced in MO.

When I called a couple of hospitals in IL, I was told that they would accept new nurses, but not graduate nurses. So I have to have an IL RN license to work in these IL hospitals. So my plan was to sit for my NCLEX here in MO, get my MO RN, and then apply for a IL RN license after that. Can I apply for an IL RN license when the ink on my MO RN is still wet? I have read threads that say that it takes the IL board like 2 months to get your IL license. Is that true? Is anyone else here living on the border of IL and MO or another state and has been through the same experience? What should I do?

Thanks,

What about just taking the NCLEX in IL?

I've already paid money to MO and submitted an application to get my Authorization to Test for the NCLEX.

I am sure it will take you a little longer to reciprocate to IL than if you took the nclex in IL. Reciprocate is where you are already licensed in one state and then you want to get licensed in another without repeating the NCLEX. Even if you were graduating from a school in IL it would take AT LEAST a month to get your license probably. When I graduated in IL we could not even get NCLEX test appointments until about 2 to 4 weeks after we graduated. I graduated from a school in IL and actually got licensed in WI and worked there first. Then came back to IL. The cost of licensing as an RN in WI and then reciprocating to IL was actually much less expensive (by about $300) then if I had just applied for an IL license. You will be applying for"licensure by endorsement". You should email the IL board of nursing to be sure the info is correct. I am pretty sure that you can do this while the ink is still fresh on your MO license, but I would email them just to confirm that you can do this without an actual RN work experience. ( I don't think it is necessary but I'm not sure.) If you go to IDFPR.com and click on registered professional nurse in the list of professions you can see pdf files of the forms you will need to submit. Also if you move during this process be sure to keep your address current with the board or else things might get sent to an old address.

I earned my IL license last year and I am now getting a license for MO. Once you have a license in one state, you can apply for a license by endorsement. (I think this is different for compact states, but IL is not part of the compact) Be prepared to pay new fees and you must have fingerprints in the new state. MO issued me a temporary license until I submit all my information. They mailed me the new license in about 1.5 weeks and I have 6 months to submit the rest of the paperwork.

i'm trying to get IL license from Mn. why would a state give you a temp. license sooner than a permanent one? can you apply for jobs with a temp. license?

I am an RN in the state of Indiana. I would like to know how to get a liscense in the state of Ilinois as soon as possible?

What is the email add of Illinois board of nursing please? I want to obtain Illinois license too . I took my NCLEX last March 2013 from the state of Vermont. Thank you.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any more recent information on this. I signed up to take my board in MO, but may have a position in IL. Basically, I will have to transfer as soon as I get my license. Anybody have experience with this? How long did it take to transfer? Can you do anything to get the process started while waiting to take boards?

Thank you!

I moved my licence from CA to IL last year and it took five months.
