Hopeless, overwhelmed, and in a new city!

Hi all,

I graduated from a ADN program 2 years ago and I am currently enrolled in a online RN-BSN program. I am having a difficult time finding a RN position at a hospital or clinic. I used to be a Medical Assistant, so I have over 10 years experience as a healthcare professional.

After I graduated I moved to a new city because of my husband's job and it was extremely saturated with new nurse grads. I applied to countless residency programs but so did about 500-1500 new grads. I finally got a job in home health and worked in a group home part-time so I have a wide variety of nursing skills but not a specific specialty.

Then we had to move to a new city again (Chicago) and I am in the same situation again. I got a part-time home health job which I am grateful for, but home health is not what I want to do. I really want to specialize in telemetry/cardiology. I am not sure how I can do that without working in a hospital.

I know if I stayed in the city I graduated in I would have been accepted into a residency position because my clinical instructors really pushed me to apply to their hospitals.

I also do not know which home care agency is the best to work for in Chicago.

I feel completely hopeless and overwhelmed!

Gosh it seems like there's almost no hospital positions in Chicago and the adn degree really doesn't help things. :(

Have you tried LTC??

I follow Advocate Healthcare on Facebook & they've been looking for cardiac nurses. Not sure if they want experience but I just saw the post earlier this week. They have multiple hospitals all over Chicago & the suburbs.
