Associates in Nursing -Worried about job
I currently doing prereqs ... I am applying to the program Jan 2014 and hope to be accepted and start Fall 2014 . I know BSN is preferred but I have 46k in debt from a bachelors degree that didn't get me a job. So needless to say I cant afford more debt ....but without a BSN seems hopeless. so I wonder create more debt by getting BSN (still not guaranteed work) or just get ADN (even tho BSN is preferred ) . ANY ADN HOLDERS (or know any) THAT GRADAUTED BETWEEN 2011-NOW THAT ARE EMPLOYED IN CHICAGOLAND AREA ANYWHERE I HAVE A CAR AND WILL DRIVE 1-1.5 HOURS IF NEED BE . ? - pay ? - are you ltc ? in a hospital, dialysis??? I really have no desire for ltc or nursing home -how long did it take to land a job ?

Looking for ER Nurse Job in Chicago,IL
its hard here in Chicago especially if you live in another state .... try getting a travel nurse assignment you have a lot of experience the travel agencies would jump for a chance because you have a lot of experience /certifications. they are normally like 3-4 months and pay for housing .....while on assignment you can apply to places and have a better chance of getting calls back since you are actually in the area....or network inside wherever your assignment is for a perm job or if on linkedin try and network with some of the recruiters in the Chicago area or er nurse managers they might can put in a word for hr to pull your resume ....networking is key in Chicago for any job plan a trip here. call some of the places you applied and let them know you will be in town and really want to move here perm.

Illinois state licensing
id start the paperwork for transferring your cna license now ...so if all else fails you will at least have the cna license while here in illnois -pro maybe you can be a cna and then transfer to a rn job within the same place ( competitive here for jobs) state of Illinois moves very slow so that's why I suggested starting cna transfer process now. - im in school for nursing now but I am a licensed hairstylist , I went to school in Wisconsin and moved here for my boyfriend and so I took the exam here and got licensed here took 2 months !!!! one of my coworkers moved from Indiana and had 3 years experience so didn't have to take exam but still took 2 months for her too ! whether you take nclex in florida or here in Illinois I think will take same amount of time - take test in florida then apply for endorsement takes time -take test in Illinois and get Illinois license still takes 2-3 months so either way takes time you know fyi Illinois does grant a temp license for already rn licensed persons from other states (not sure how long that takes to get though)...Illinois website for information isn't good compared to like texas board of nursing is very spelled out but if you already have cna license ....you will have something at least until the 2-3 months of getting you rn license :) also know people who finished in may but exam/license process didn't get until july or august here in Illinois ...ironically a lot of my hair clients are nurses lol. hope this hopes

'New' Grad, no job, nursing refresher to stay 'employable'?
im scared its been 1 year and still no job !!! have you tried even applying for cna or medical assistant jobs ?? do you have bsn?
-
Wow so i won't find a job?!
trust me as a single mom going back for nursing I have lived on 12.00 snd hour! you might not be in Lincoln park or mostly white areas but you can live ! 18.00 is better than the min wage I get now . id take it and keep looking !
-
Same cost to get ADN vs. BSN
based on facts do the bsn ...but what if you don't get in ??? umm id ask the bsn school if you are accepted will you get credit for the asn nursing classes if so....id say do the adn program for the august 2014 semester if accepted into the bsn program go there and transfer your nursing classes you took already to the bsn program if you can......if not accepted into the bsn program keep trucking thru the adn program

Whats my next step after I get my GED?
I don't recommend being a pediatrician will take very long time and debt before you see the joy in this . id recommend doing the nurse route time/debt wise. after ged id take the act/sat ..... id apply to both community colleges/4 years . if 4 yr giving good scholarship go there ....if not take all pre reqs for nursing at community college *about 2 years* way cheaper and if your dad makes little money you will qualify for a grant . once done with all pre reqs apply for a 4 yr nursing program. get accepted. finish in about 2 years. take nclex test. pass. be a RN (work in childrens hospital /family practice/ school nurse) after 1-2 years experience .... get masters in nursing and have your specialty be a family nurse practitioner or pediatric nurse practitioner ...pay about 80-100k per year. nurse practitioner similar to physician assistant pay wise and duty wise.

Going crazy
Just because you have BSN it still might take the same amount of time as a ADN to find work. It just makes you more marketable but doesn't guarantee a job neither !. Id do the ADN route, but I know after 10 years of being a fulltime nurse they will get rid of your student loans that's a loan repayment plan option . im doing adn because previous debt from first bachelors and adn is free and I need tuition reimbursement to be able to afford more education from an employer /a real paycheck lol
-
This Is My Goal
im trying to get into a hospital now to get some tuition reimbursement no luck. I cant afford to do cna class now to try and get a cna jobs ive just been applying clerical type hospital jobs will wait til after my 1st semester of nursing school and then take cna test (you can do that instead of cna class ) hopefully I can land a job then I really want that experience. advice do some pre reqs in the spring 2014 at a community college ....keep applying to cna jobs (the experience will be good in future and they will be flexible with school schedule ) after your pre reqs apply for the rn program . 23 is still young im 28 and have to re do everything in life so there is hope :)

Ridiculous
yes you having to send over a course description does make sense. I know its a mess but will be worth the extra leg work in the end.
