Hey all.

I will begin the nursing program at Harper College in Palatine this fall. I am just looking for some advice, or insight on the program. Like what teachers are great? or some that arent? where is a good place to do specific clinincals?? or anything you can possibly think of!!!

thanks

well I went to harpers CNA course, but my freind LU(yet this was like a couple years ago) he went to Nursing School at harper and from what I know the teachers are great at least the CNA teachers not I cant say that about all the teachers, but I dont know if you know about the Live in Virtual Hospital since feb since they built it. As far as clincals from what my freind told me you will be randomly be sent to a clincal, like one of my freinds clincals where like 1 hr away(it sucked, well for him) now that may not all be true, but from what information I got from him when i asked him questions. but just give it your all during and after nursing school

Thanks for the info. Yeah, they must changed the clinical scheduling, because I picked my time and location.

I have just finished my first semester of NS @ Harper, and I loved it. It was hard but doable. I started school with the mentality that it was going to be hard, so I started to study hard from the beginning. The teachers are great and very helpful, they care about your success. The first 8 weeks of school are a lot "easier" than the second eight weeks b/c that's when clinicals start so you have to learn how to manage your time, especially if you work. Patho is a hard class that requieres a lot of studying but its very interesting. Good Luck, any questions feel free to ask me! :nurse:

Thanks so much for commenting about your experience! I do work, and was wondering how many hours you think are do-able each week. Also, how many hours a day or week dis you spend studying?

hmmm it depends, I actually work about 24 hrs per week and on my days off I would study an average of 5 hrs per day for a total of about 15 hrs of studying per week and thats besides the hrs spent reading weekly chapters.

dsignrgrl, I also start at harper in the fall! I am looking forward to it but scared as well. Also, thank you MelNS2012 for your input and advice! :)

@jessicarose....thats awesome!! I just handed in all my paperwork to health services (physical, insurance verification, titers, etc) where/when are your clinicals for NUR 112???

Yeah i just turned in all my stuff today as well! My clinicals will be on wednesdays 3-9 at alexian brothers hospital in elk grove, what about you?

Mine are at Alexian brothers too. But on Fridays 7a-2p

Nice! I actually took advanced pharmacology this summer and had Barb Anderson who will teach nursing 111 and she is AWESOME so I'm looking forward to that class.

Thats so good to hear! I'm gettin more nervous as the first day gets closer. I'm glad I handed in all the paperwork though, one thing off the too do list. I've been looking online lately for discounted books. Cause Harper charges so much. As any school does. Have you bought yours yet?
