Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

A little less than half of the students get dropped from the program before reaching 2nd yr.

TrNrsngStdnt, I agree with you, when I was withdrawing my class, I overheard two nursing instructors saying that close to 50% of the second year students were failing that was the reason they extended the withdraw date. Those are vey scary numbers!:uhoh3:

RUBY,

You are right, they did extend the withdraw date for those students who were borderline. The last withdraw date was 1 or 2 days before a big test. So depending on how students did, they would know whether or not they still had a fighting chance in this messed up program. :hdvwl: Anyone here that goes to DAILEY or TRUMAN or MALCOLM X that is against the policy and all the changes that are being made in the middle of our program?!?!? I find this ludicrous!!! I know the Chancellor does not want a repeat of what happened last year. So any one interested in voicing their opinions and concerns on the inconsistencies within the program? We need to band together so we could come up with a plan/proposal, and be organized about what we think should be happening with in our schools.... I think somewhere along the line these people forgot they all have jobs because of us. We are paying for these services. And I for one am an unsatisfied customer :down::down::down::down:

Hi, I'm new here and have a quick question. I'm getting ready to take my pre req courses at Truman (I only need bio and chem because I'm a transfer student). Do I need to take my co reqs too in order to get into the program? The advisor i spoke with didn't mention that, although I do recognize that the more co reqs you have the more points you get. Please advise. Can I get in with just my pre req courses taken? Thanks. :)

Even if u have all A's the chance of getting in with just pre-req classes is VERY low. last year minimum point was around 70 points.

Thanks for posting an answer, that helps. Just to clarify then, most people applying for admission to the Truman nursing program have already taken the req. courses such as BIO 226, 227, and MICRO 233? I'm a transfer student with at 3.9 on a 4 scale, but I'm not sure that really makes a difference. I'm signed up for some pre reqs this semester, but if I have to take the req. courses I think I'll have to give up this idea. I'm 40 yrs. old and don't have time to take all these courses before I even get into the program.

Since truman admission is based on the point system, the more classes you take, the more A's you have, the higher your chances are. NOT all students have all the co req classes. you need to take at least one more class to be in the safe zone.

The minimum point needed to get into the program is different every year.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

For those who have taken the COMPASS reading exam at Truman already, was it timed? How long was the test to you? Any response would be appreciated as I'm taking the test tomorrow and kinda nervous. Thank you!!
