  1. Sorry, not sure. I want to say yes because that's what I had heard from faculty. But there were still a lot of kinks and unknowns that needed to be worked out and answered. So they may postpone until they figure out how all this will pan out. If I hear anything else I will let you know
  2. Well, we started off with about 100 students. I heard rumors from 2 different instructors that after our midterm this last semester we had at least 50 students drop. But that's counting our classmates that dropped during our first year. Either way, that's a scary number. They even extended the drop date this last semester because so many students relied on this one test to decipher whether or not they should stay with the program. My question is.... Why do we lose so many students? I know that we may lose some... But this many?? I see a huge problem with this, and too many people just turn their cheek. As for being assigned a school according to where you live?? I heard that this is true. What will be happening is you apply to a CCC. Then if you are accepted, you will be told which school you will be enrolling to.... Sucks if you ask me, because Malcolm X nursing program lost their NLN accredidation. I wouldnt want to go there. Actually, if I had a choice, I would stay away from all CCC!!! But that's just my opinion.
  3. Good luck to you, and hopefully this hesi thing does get sorted out. But it's not gonna happen if we all just sit and wait for it to happen We need to band together.... But I guess no one will take action until the end of this year, and students start dropping like flies.... Spread the word! It's only way to make a change. I'm trying my best. But I'm only 1 person
  4. It's not directly speaking of the NURSING program. It's in regards to ALL the programs. It's about all CCC's. The changes she is trying to make will affect us too.
  5. Yup!!! Pretty sweet huh?? Google "reinventing ccc" and check out what she's trying to do. You'll be pleasantly surprised. =)
  6. According to studies, out of all the students that enroll in a program, only 7% actually graduate!!! ***!?!? 7%? After all that tine and money invested, less than half those students complete a program. The Chancellor is investigating to figure out what is going on?? Is it the students? Is it the teachers? Is it a combination of the two things? Whatever it is, it needs to be fixed. And who better to help resolve these issues than the students who are enrolled in these programs
  7. Anyone here that goes to DAILEY or TRUMAN or MALCOLM X that is against the policy and all the changes that are being made in the middle of our program?!?!? I find this ludicrous!!! I would hope the Chancellor does not want a repeat of what happened last year. So any one interested in voicing their opinions and concerns on the inconsistencies within the program? We need to band together so we could come up with a plan/proposal, and be organized about what we think should be happening with in our schools.... I think somewhere along the line these people forgot they all have jobs because of us. We are paying for these services. And I for one am an unsatisfied customer Go to the website or google reinventing CCC. You will be surprised at the changes the chancellor is trying to make for THE STUDENT!!! The ones that really matter in this program. Let's help our fellow classmates who were left behind. Those who failed the HESI and are no longer to move on in the program.... This is not right!!! You still have a couple of weeks to fight this. You have my support! I hope others will join and support to help the people who deserve to be in school, get back in and get their degrees. I lost a lot of friends this semester. If theres anything I can do to help, you can count on me
  8. run!!!!!!!!!!! don't come here!!! i am a second yr, and regret the day i ever came to truman. they are so disorganized, don't care about their students, and are only interested in the students they believe will pass the nclex 1st try, so that way truman gets their money..... sad but true!!! run
  9. :hdvwl: anyone here that goes to dailey or truman or malcolm x that is against the policy and all the changes that are being made in the middle of our program?!?!? i find this ludicrous!!! i don't think the chancellor would want a repeat of what happened last year. so any one interested in voicing their opinions and concerns on the nonconformity and disorganization within the program? we need to band together so we could come up with a plan/proposal, and be organized about what we think should be happening with in our schools.... i think somewhere along the line ccc forgot they all have jobs because of us. we are paying for these services. and i, for one, am an unsatisfied customer:down::down::down: the chancellor is working for a change, but with the help of ccc students. go to the website or google reinventing ccc. you will be surprised at the changes the chancellor is trying to make for the student!!! the ones that really matter in this program. let's help our fellow classmates who were left behind. those who failed the hesi and are no longer able to move on in the program.... this is not right!!! and how about those of us who are still in the program?? what if we don't make it next semester because of all the crap they keep tossing at us? we still have a couple of weeks to fight this before our classes begin. you have my support! i hope others will join and support to help the people who deserve to be in school, get back in and get their degrees. i don't mean just get back in with no make-up work. i mean have them retake a test. i lost a lot of friends this semester. if theres anything i can do to help, you can count on me:nurse: sorry for ranting on, but i'm just nervous for next semester, and what could happen to us.... we have all these hesi's to take, and we may not cover all the content we are going to be tested on... hesi should be used as an assessment tool to aid students in reinforcing their weak areas. but that is not how it's being used. it's actually being abused till this day.... pass this link on to other students, and if you know of other students at other ccc's, please pass this on thanks
  10. RUBY, You are right, they did extend the withdraw date for those students who were borderline. The last withdraw date was 1 or 2 days before a big test. So depending on how students did, they would know whether or not they still had a fighting chance in this messed up program. :hdvwl: Anyone here that goes to DAILEY or TRUMAN or MALCOLM X that is against the policy and all the changes that are being made in the middle of our program?!?!? I find this ludicrous!!! I know the Chancellor does not want a repeat of what happened last year. So any one interested in voicing their opinions and concerns on the inconsistencies within the program? We need to band together so we could come up with a plan/proposal, and be organized about what we think should be happening with in our schools.... 11. PRETTYSMART, Can you tell me who I can contact about this? I am in the Truman class of 2011, and we are experiencing the same thing. I supported you guys in your journey, and helped pass the word about what was happening. I knew that one way or another this would affect me too because I signed the same contract you guys did. Truman is now incorporating HESI to account for a percentage of our grade. Meaning that is you pass all the exams that your professor gives you, and you are a borderline student, scoring low on your HESI would bring your average down, and as a result, you do not get to move on in the program. Where can I find the research that you guys obtained? I could really use the help to help my class that is slowly dwindling down to scarce numbers!! thank you
  12. Jessicaboop, what petition did you just sign? I too would like to sign. Class of 2011 needs help!!!! anyone with info please pass it my way Thanks
  13. To ERnurseDAD, I know that truman is oh so very proud of their success rate... But has Truman ever taken a look at your failure rate? The class of 2011 has lost over 50 students since they started 1st yr. Maybe it's time to take a look at this huge problem, and the major discrepancy in numbers. How is it possible that a student can make it all the way to the end of the program... and then fail because of the HESI? And even though its being added in differently (it affects a percentage of our grade, strategically weaseled into the numbers), it's still being used against the students, instead of as an "actual" assesment tool it is claimed to be. Maybe it's because, although the HESI and NCLEX have a GREAT correlation, the courses taught by the instructors do not correlate with HESI. I am not saying that the instructors aren't great at what they do. As a matter of fact, I have a great relationship with all my nursing instructors. But I know first hand that there is a HUGE difference in the tests the theory instructor gives, vs the HESI. The instructors are preparing us to pass their test, and therefore students are unsuccessful when challenged with the HESI. This is why the Chancellor is getting involved. Because everyone forgets about those who didn't get to move on in the program. Nothing was done to help these students be successful. Shoving material down the students throats, and expecting them to know it all, is unrealistic. Especially for those students who are a blank slate... For those who are doing good, and succeeding, KUDOS to them (us). And keep going strong (I know I will). For "THE FALLEN" get back up and do your thang! I really believe that the Chancellor is going to make a difference. Go to her 'reinventing ccc' website and read about what she is trying to do. From what I hear, the students of 2011 are getting ready to fight for their rights, as did the class of 2010. Even though this does not affect me, I believe in what I say, therefore you can count on me to stand by those who need my support. The way HESI is being abused (a disadvantage to students) Is HESI really being used as an assesment? If that were true, then students would get to move on in the program. But that is not the case. It is being used as a tool to prevent those who staff believe may be unsuccessful with NCLEX, from ever even getting a chance. An assesment tool would be given in the beginning, and then extra help would be provided to those who showed areas that they would need to brush up on. Again, lets look at the number. A little less than half of the students get dropped from the program before reaching 2nd yr. We will lose more students in 2nd yr due to the fact that we have 15 exams total we have to take in our last semester! Let's keep tabs on how many actually graduate.... Then we'll see if we should really be proud of that "so called" HIGH passing rate. I think it's sad really..... Well, good luck to all of us going into our last semester of our 2nd yr. Lord knows we'll need it... And to your comment about life, as well as the nursing program, not being fair.... I'm happy that you agree that the program is being directed unfairly. I'm sure others would agree with me that we deserve a fair chance. Especially with the inflated tuition we pay. TrumanNursingStudent class of 2011
