I am currently a pre- nursing student and I have so many questions, but first I dont know i Should join into the AF or the army? At first I was going to join the AF as an enlisted and complete school that way. Well I guess that didn't go through, I then decided to just finish my schooling until I do finish to finish my nursing and go into the AF. Then I came across the army national gaurd and spoke with a recruiter and told me that I could be In the army and go into the ROTC at the university. I do like all the benefits that they offer, but I've always wanted AF because everyone says its the best branch. But im not exactly sure who to listen to. I guess im just in a hurry to get into the military because its what i've always wanted to do and being in rotc will help me understand how it works. I did consider AF rotc but they dont offer as much as the Army rotc does. Anyone who has done rotc in the army or AF please give me some input and information that will help me make a decision.....i would greatly appreciate it thanks a bunch!!

My personal preference would be AirForce. I spent 9 years in the Navy and my son is in the Airforce and I'm impressed with their housing lifestyle etc...I work with an Army reservest and some of the things she tells me makes me glad I didn't go army.

I say join the Air Force!! But, I am biased b/c my hubby is in the Air Force :)

I say Air Force and this is coming from an Army Brat and ex-Army Wife. :)

Former Army spouse here, also. I was sold on the Air Force when I lived on an Army post and suddenly all the housing was being renovated because we were getting Air Force pesonnel. Here, the Air Force inspected the housing and said it was "substandard" and had to be improved before they would put their people in it. I was in love :redbeathe :chuckle

The Army is nice, but I've only heard wonderful things from Air Force nurses.

Have you considered the NAVY?

Hello and welcome to the wonderful family of allnurses.com. Enjoy your stay, and best of luck to you. :)

No one can tell you what to join. You have to do what is best for you. Weigh the pros and con for each branch. Talk with a recruiter from each branch.

I am in the Army and I love it. Your standard of living as a junior officer is based on where you want to live. You will be paid to live on the economy. That is in all branches of service you have that option. The Army the largest organization so we have more to offer.

I just suggest you do your research and follow year heart.

Self; 1LT USAR Nurse Corps [direct commission 2003] & USMC Veteran [1980-1988]

I'm not going to tell you to pick the Army Nurse Corps over the Air Force, however I do strongly suggest you apply for an ROTC program at your four year college. You can attend an Army ROTC program, and upon completion of BSN program [and passing boards] apply/accept direct commission into Army Nurse Corps, then attend the AMEDD Officer Basic Course.

Good luck with you decision.

My husband went ROTC through his college and then did 20 years in the USAF. We travelled, lived in three foreign countries, and 6 states. AF housing can be sub-standard and in others it can be fabulous. We have lived in all ends of the spectrum. You don't get into the military for the housing. :chuckle

I agree with the earlier post. Talk with both recruiters and weigh the pros and cons. Look at a map of where the bases/posts are located. Are you happy with living in the midwest vs. the north east, etc. Are you willing to live overseas? Are you willing to be deployed to the middle east? These are all questions you need to consider.

We loved the time we spent in the military. The AF treated us well. We have many beautiful things in our house to show for all our travels. Most of all, we met some wonderful folks in the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines. They all have great people. THAT is what makes for a good experience anyway.

Boomerfriend,

Your post didn't make things easier, it made it harder! lol
