GS pay scale for government nursing jobs

Does anyone know how to read GS pay scales for nurses. I know that we are a Title 5 or 38 job so we don't go off of general gs pay scales.

I am interviewing for a GS 10 job at a military fort. I cannot find the right pay scale to see what I would be looking at for pay.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

I don't know if you will be getting automatic step increases with the wage freeze (federal workers) which includes civilians working in military hospitals, etc... Plus the civilian transportation benefit has been cut significantly as well.

Last year I was offered a GS12 at Walter Reed as a CNS (masters prepared) with ten years of experience at a salary of $86,000. I thought it was low considering I was already making $98,000 and subsequently took another job paying in the low 100,000s.

Additionally, you get automatic step increases (which never happens in the civilian world) and you can get a retirement check!!

Never say "never". I had automatic step increases at my last job, at a civilian hospital, and I know that several other hospitals in my area (SF Bay Area) have this. (but you're right that it doesn't happen at all jobs, including my current one -- and it definitely is a plus!). I will be eligible for a pension through my current (civilian) employer and would have been at my previous one, if I had stayed long enough to be vested (5 years).

You are right.....never say never....I do live in the DC area and we employ the largest percentage of federal workers and many are concerned with the recent freeze and the decrease in transportation benefit (which was $230/month). The cost of living here is so high (so is SF) that you need every cent just to get by....

I realize this is an old discussion; however had some questions along the line discussed here. I am currently a Nurse II, step2 with the benefits that go along with a title 38. I was just told that I have a job offer (no talk about money yet) at a DOD Army as a GS Nurse in Germany. The position was listed as a GS9 on USA jobs, and an YH 02 on Medcell. The GS 9 would be so much lower than what I make now. Can one barging for more income, to keep current benefits. I understand that there is COL and LQA added to the amount but the base pay is so much lower. Anyone has any experiences with a similar situation?

Thanks!

I want to get a government job... how competitive are they? if anyone could answer my question, I'd greatly appreciate it!
