FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

lol Yes! I know your pain, I have been working with that LT "B" for around 6 months now.. Not sure if you know but he recently transferred. He supposedly turned my package over to another LT in his office.. I've been trying to get a hold of my new recruiter but haven't had any luck yet..

I echo all the difficulty tryig to get in touch with a medical recruiter and I live in San Diego, and work on the base literally down the street from their office. I am a civilian nurse working for the military and have 4 years of experience as a BSN with a specialty in psych (currently treating combat-related PTSD in Active Duty SMs). When I FINALLY met with the LT (who was impossible to get a hold of even with CAPTs, CDRs, and the NC PRogram Manager in Millington trying to help), we sat down and he was really excited that I was looking to continue on in psych with the Navy. Right. That died quickly. It has been next to imposible to get in touch with him, and I really do not want my whole package to be delayed because of one LT. I've heard too many horror stories of people starting earlier and their kits not even making it to boards. I'm starting to feel like a stalker at this point but am one week away from taking it up the chain or contacting LA's NRD and seeing if they'll be more responsive to my needs. Any suggestions on unresponsive recruiters is VERY welcomed. My boyfriend is a 22 year retired Marine with significant recruiting experience under his belt and he's shocked as well. I work for the Navy - I know how badly we need good AD nurses. Disappointing to see the access being held up at the lowest level...

Hey dolphins I private messages you concerning your last post. Do you have PM?

Hey, no i don't have the 15 posts yet, but I did get to read your pm. I'm actually still trying to get into the NCP as I don't graduate until DEC 2014. My package should be completed except for a phone interview which i've been waiting for months to do. I JUST missed getting everything he needed before the program closed last April, so thats why I need a phone interview cause I guess my face to face would be too long ago for this upcoming cycle. Who did he say he was turning your application over to?

Dolphins421. I have also been working with LT "B" since about March. It took me showing up at his office to get my paperwork started. I had been trying for over a month in the beginning to get in touch with him. The new LT "L" that is taking over I got to meet when I was doing all of my physical and interviews in May and he is very knowledgeable. He should be good to work with. if you would like to email me to get the information for the new LT "L" feel free. [email protected].

any updates for this year's applicants such as the date of the first board, how many spots, and if theyre commissioning new grads? this thread has been relatively quiet but the fiscal year is about to start!!

hey mshelton! i am also a prior "lt.b" recruit and have been working with "lt.l" the last few weeks. i am also done with my kit and now its just waiting time for the boards. i have only met "Lt.L" briefly. has he been helpful? he always seems to be in a rush when we speak on the phone and has implied that getting picked up is mostly dependent on turning in the kit for the first board. i don' t want to get my hopes up as i know how competitive it is, and wanted to know if this is a similar attitude you received from the recruiters from san diego?

GuelnRn,

I have not heard much about the board. My recruiter emailed me to let me know that my packet was being signed by the powers to be and will be ready to submit Oct. 1, 2013. I have no idea how this works because I suspect that they have others on a waiting list. I know that when I started the process early this year that they were accepting 8-10 1960 slots. I just pray that I am selected.

What area of nursing are you interested in?

Are there any individuals on this forum from the East Coast?

I'm from VA working with a recruiter out of Norfolk, VA.

I spoke with my recruiter a few days ago, and I will see him tomorrow to change some stuff on my security clearance. I asked him if I need to resign or change anything from my old paperwork, and he told me that we shouldn't do it until mid-September. Apparently, that is when the changes for FY 2014 paperwork comes out. I guess I'll know some more when I go there tomorrow. He did tell me that expects 15 sopts for 1960 for 2014, since that is what it has been the past 2 years. I'm hoping to get picked at the first board, and be done with this whole process.

love 2013,

I am interested in emergency care, however I am a new grad with no RN experience aside from my clinical rotations and 6 months of volunteer work at USC's telemetry unit so I would definitely be in med surg if I get commisioned.

I started this process February of 2012 while I was in my first semester of nursing school. I tried for the NCP but never made the boards on time as the spots filled up quickly for FY 2013. My first recruiter then decided to switch me over to the Direct Accession route which according to him I would be eligible for once I was within 6 months of graduating. Well my recruiter got transferred recently and I got picked up by a new recruiter who seems more knowledgable and reliable. I went to Balboa Medical Center in San Diego today to finish up my packet to turn in to the first board(supposedly near finished according to my first recruiter). Turns out my old recruiter didn't know everything had to be within 6 months such as lab work, physical, interviews, background clearance, letters of rec, etc.) My new recruiter and I spent literally all day to redo everything, which we were able to do from 0700-1500. My old recruiter had no idea what he was doing and we discovered that on some of my forms he mistakenly put my phone number as my social security number. MINDBLOWN...

Anyways, I think my kit will be ready come first board and my recruiter seemed confident that I would get picked up regardless of the fact that I have no nursing experience at all. I just don't know what to believe... I want to believe him, but this site has really made me more anxious than I think I need to be due to the wide range of experiences with this whole process. I could tell he really knew what he was doing though which definitely helps and even got me a last minute interview with one of his good friends who is a O6 Captain. He said a good score from a captain would hold a lot of weight for the boards.

I'm with you vinstafa. This whole process has been a nightmare and if I wasn't 100% sure I anted to serve in the Navy, I don't think I would have gotten this far. I know that both you and love 2013 have prior experience but have you guys heard anything about the chances of new grads via DA route?

I am from VA and working with a recruiter from Norfolk also.
