Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon Kim
If you google search FY 13 navy critical care bonus. Then you have to read the areas that apply to 1960.
No you don't have to have your Masters. You need a BSN and CCRN. I just happened to get my MSN by default. I was actually going for my FNP, but I would have to sit out a year. Therefore, I just went for my MSN with a specialty in Nursing education. Now that I am going into the Navy, I will figure out if I really want to be a NP or take another track to get my DNP.
One of the guys I used to work with joined the Navy and he said he will get that after his initial 4 years bc you cannot have the accession bonus and the ISP bonus. The way I understand it is that you cannot combine offers. I found this website also: Pages - default
Let me clear up all this ISP confusion with someone that is actually getting the bonus. You have to apply for it, its not automatic. You can only apply for it if you have your CCRN and have finished your initial commitment. You get $5000 a year for each year you contract for up to $20000. When you are receiving the bonus, you can only be assigned to 1960 billets (shore or operational) and you will not be able to apply for any other programs such as HPLRP or DUINS (Duty Under Instruction) to get your masters or DNP until your contract is up. Its best to apply for the bonus to match your projected rotation date (PRD) or in April - July if you plan on doing DUINS after the contract. You are able to apply for DUINS under the contract, but you must finish the contract before school starts to be able to be released by your command. For example, I applied for the bonus in October, so I get $14,200 after taxes, and I want to apply for DUINS for CRNA. I will not be able to start DUINS until the following year my contract is up because I am still getting the bonus when school starts, so I have to extend at my command until April of the following year. Hope that helps.
When you join do not depend on the ISP being there since it is a bonus could change change or end. Also, as I have stated even if you plan on doing 20 do not quit your job since things happen; you may not like the military like you thought you would, you get injured and no longer able to serve, forced cuts, etc. No employer can make you quit when when you join, it is your right to take military leave which holds a position for you for 5 years.

That link didn't work, but I was able to pseudo-navigate to something, but I couldn't find anything specifically for CCRN. Do you have to have your masters to get the bonus?
